Flight 1 (3 Notes)

Very impressed wiith the L'Ecu. Otto, I've seen the light!

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

A strong light with the Lapierre stannding out for me:

Flight 7 (2 Notes)

Just leaving as these went round so I'd taken the precaution of starting this flight before the others - very pleased I did as the 2000 was my WOTN. Impressive wines albeit as burgundy impersonators:

Flight 8 (2 Notes)

Had to dash off before this flight so just had a quick slurp before going. Wines were too warm at this stage, but I liked what I tasted:

  • 1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Fleurie

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie

2 half bottles. Mature, burgundian nose, touch of caramel (half 1 more so than half 2) Dusty strawberry fruit, mature. I like this but it may not appeal to those who like a fresher, fruitier style. Again, too warm when tasted quickly. ***

  • 1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Moulin-à-Vent

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

Fresher and purer than the halves of Fleurie. Lovely strawberry fruit. Burgundian in style, mellow, mature, nice. A bit warm. ***

Closing

Thanks to Guy for pulling this event together and to everyone for their wines. RJ and Lorna on top form - think that's the best meal I've had there (not a hint of the excessive salt that spoilt one or two meeals there a couple of year ago). Good also to put faces to, and chat to Nigel, Bobby, Jamie and Mark with the usual frustrations about the other end of the table being too far away for any attempt at conversation - inevitable though.
