Cult producers only

What a line up, obviously fantastic producers, but they all showed why they garner so much respect in their respective style. For me, the surprise of the night was Krug. It was playing at a seriously high level, a notch higher than I anticipated after a bottle 2 years ago. Also, the Vosne village from MG is one of the most purely enjoyable bottle of wines I´ve ever had, no rough edges or friction anywhere, just pure joy.

  First whiff reveals a complete, purebred top Champagne with Amalfi lemons, white orchard fruits, rose petals, sweet red fruit and balloon plastic.
  The palate has so much breadth, yet is never heavy. Elegant and endless finish.
  
  Previous bottle 2 years ago showed very acidic, now it was all in complete harmony. Almost difficult to believe how good this was, looking forward to Mesnil 08..

• 2020 Coche-Dury Chardonnay Bourgogne 93 Points

  It was quite stupid not to decant this, as a bottle 6 months ago benefited from 3-4 hours in the glass to reveal the best Bourgogne Blanc I´ve ever encountered.
  
  Either way a very nice wine, a yellow fruited nose, sweet and enveloping. Also a wet bonfire aroma which persisted to the palate, alongside gun flint, quite a bit of oak and a long, stony finish.
  
  Wonderful wine, but a shadow of the unbelievable bottle 6 months ago.

• 2015 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon 94 Points

  This accented a lovely stony minerality, especially on the nose. Great depth, medium bodied yet very intense, and a really well defined finish. Edged out the Coche next to it.

• 2019 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée 95 Points

  This is just so pure, red berry fruit all the way, so perfectly in harmony, also a lovely raspberry bush hint alongside a funny fur aroma.
  
  The palate is so tasty, orange and raspberry, elegant and wholesome. Very long finish.
  
  This is the most inviting bottle of MG I´ve ever had, just buckets of fun and much less overtly tannic than a bottle of their Bourgogne ´19 four months ago.
  Not the last word on complexity, but for its category and spirit, this is utterly flawless.

• 2019 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras 97 Points

  Immediately, this hits all of my spots, the whole range of sweet berries are represented, redcurrant, cherry pits, a bucket load of sweet spice, dried meat, eucalyptus and a striking degree of freshness to balance it all out. This is one of the most compelling and complex noses I´ve come across in quite some time, feels like a bottomless wine.
  
  The palate is oh so classy, incredibly spicy with waves of red fruit and a finish that lasted beyond the 60 sec mark.
  
  I am completely blown away by this, clearly Louis-Michel deserves every bit of the praise he receives.

• 2016 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo Cannubi 96 Points

  The nose has a broad profile, featuring a nice forest berry mix, citrus rind, hawthorn and rose stems.
  
  The palate has that classic Burlotto red berry yoghurt alongside juniper and pine needles. Fine grained tannins and such a long finish driven by red fruits and truffle.
  
  Quite different from the Monvigliero, for me slightly more classical, though just as interesting.

  This has that classic Burlotto Monvigliero nose; balsamic strawberries, blueberries, blackcurrant buds, a dusty quality and such an intensity.
  
  Unique mouthfeel, light bodied with (a few) dusty tannins, so earthy alongside the high pitched (almost VA) strawberries.
  So sweet and long finish here, driven by strawberry seeds.
  Fascinating!

• 2022 Pierre Gonon Saint-Joseph

  This showed juicy and primary fruits, sweet licorice, a little iodine. On closer inspection, a raspberry/blackberry hybrid, green pepper and stony overtones.
  
  On the palate, this is juicy and charming, not too much of a tannic bite as of now. A lot of heather notes and a decently long finish.
