Barrel tasting. Rich, seemingly near opulent to start, brighter from middle towards longish finish, where 1er Cru density emerges at the end. 89+ point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Barrel tasting. Also showing vintage ripeness to start, but then also shows more brightness towards the finish. Young vines here, simpler than the Coucherias blanc.
Barrel tasting. Faintly floral start with apple and lemon throughout. Bright finish gets your attention. Once again the star of the Labet white lineup. 90+ point potential.
Barrel tasting. Opulent and hinting at sweetness with enough balancing energy. Good richness with balance. I enjoyed this more than the previous vintages I was able to taste in previous visits (2019 and 2020).
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Barrel tasting. 50+% whole cluster dominates right now, but good richness and old vine density as well. This will need some cellar time to come together and reach its potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasted at the domaine, separately tasting three barrels (individual notes below). Each has great contribution to what I expect will be another successful vintage, certainly 91-93 points.
Barrel 1 (destemmed young vines): Ripe and bright red fruits that are very tasty, but modestly complex for now.
Barrel 2 (30% whole cluster, 60 yo vines): Absolutely complex and composed with a multi-faceted spicebox for now, great depth,
Barrel 3 (100% whole cluster, also 60 yo vines): More black fruits coming through here, with whole cluster more harmoniously integrated already. Most bold and powerful of the trio, slightly backward.
Each taste's character and structure is obviously not just driven by the stem inclusion since each is from different plots with their own terroir character, but this was overall very insightful.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Barrel tasting. Great perfumed start with richness so well balanced with its structure. Very long finish with expanding complexity already. A great success, 93-94 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Cellar visit. First time tasted since this was bottled. Popped-and-poured. Black and red fruits with great balance already. 50% whole cluster in balance with everything else from start through its long finish. Very good, surprisingly accessible for this vintage this young.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Cellar visit. Subtle aromatic start then bigger and bolder without anything awkward or firm. I thought this was shutting down when last tasted 203 years ago, and still think this will be better 2028 forward, but lots to enjoy already.
2023 Domaine Pierre Labet Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Barrel tasting. Apple start-to-finish with racy energy throughout, good for its level. 86-88 point potential.
