No disgorgement details but one of the older bottles that I have; took delivery in 2021 so possibly 2016/17 base? Roughly equal parts of the three main grapes, quite red-fruited so I was intrigued when both friends guessed Chardonnay. Benefited from air, put on both energy and weight. Still was going strong on second day even as the bubbles dissipated. Stylistically his wines can be thought of as a natural house if that makes sense, I am a big fan.
Hand-carried this from France after finding it in a natural wine shop in Lyon. Started off quite natty with apple cider notes before evolving to a mix of natural and classic, and eventually a fully classic white Burg. Preferred its last form but some liked the mix of wildness and classic citrus fruit. Serious, waxy texture with good weight; high in both alcohol and acidity but overall well-balanced. Worth seeking more but not at secondary prices.
Wanted to try another cuvée of the Charodon after being impressed by both colours during a tasting last year. Thought this had to be Vosne, large dose of oak but didn’t cross the line into being obnoxious for me; all his wines maintain a sense of terroir despite the oak. Spiced cherry fruit, very fresh for a 2020 without being dense. Another producer worth looking out for.
Archetypal Italian nose with pretty floral notes and wild VA. Appeared a little advanced as the colour showed some bricking, but palate was fresh and lifted with slight spicy fruit. Some alcohol heat that betrayed some signs of the hot vintage. Elegant and lighter style that might not make old bones.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Leftover samples. Guessed a feminine Gevrey, unfortunately developed a Chinese herbal medicine smell overnight but palate was quite silky and restrained; had some earthy, savoury Gevrey notes. Liked the elegant texture on this, think I said it tasted expensive.
