Flight 1 (12 Notes)

  • 2021 Domaine Antoine Jobard Bourgogne-Aligoté 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté

The nose is fresh and balanced with tones of red apples, nectarines, Bosc pears, vanilla beans, stone fruits, toast, and yellow flowers. The nose is open and friendly with decent depth for the level. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with crisp, medium+ acidity. This is a very good Aligote that shows off excellent balance and freshness.

  • 2022 Jérôme Galeyrand Bourgogne Blanc Orane 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

The nose is balanced and fresh with tones of pears, orange peels, nectarines, Meyer lemons, quince, yellow flowers, and a touch of biscuit notes. This has good depth for the level, but nothing that will knock your socks off. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity that makes your mouth water. This is an excellent Bourgogne Blanc that punches real well. It may not be amazing, but it doesn’t have to be at this price and it does its job perfectly well.

  • 2021 Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

The nose is fresh and lifted with beautifully balanced tones of pears, seashells, saline, flint, apples, Meyer lemons, some vanilla, and white flowers. There is excellent depth and seamlessness that really makes this attractive. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced and fresh with crisp, medium+ acidity that persists. This is lovely and while young, it’s giving up a good bit right now. That said, it can certainly benefit from a few years of aging to let it really come into balance and express itself.

  • 2015 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

Two years on and this while in some ways it hasn’t budged, in others it feels like it has well rounded into form. The nose is balanced and deft with tones of pears, red apples, quince, vanilla beans, nectarines, creamed peaches, some saline and yellow flowers. The Medium bodied feel is textured and balanced with fresh and persistent, medium+ acidity. This has developed really well and feels more complete than it did 2 years ago. This is right in its zone and deserves to be enjoyed to the hilt right now.

  • 2022 Domaine Des Vignes du Maynes (Julien Guillot) Mâcon Macon Rouge Selection Massale 87 Points

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon

The nose is fresh and lifted with tones of red cherries, crushed rocks, red berries, bubblegum notes, raspberries, roses, and baking spices. There is some nice lift to the nose, but it lacks depth and more leans into the fresh berry style. The Medium bodied feel is fresh with crisp, medium+ acidity and chalky, medium tannins. There is a little prickle on the acidity, but more importantly the tannins are a little underripe. This is a fun wine to try, but it lacks in a few key areas that would make it a good bit better.

  • 2010 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Les Longeroies 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay

The nose is well balanced and refined with tones of red cherries, raspberries, rose petals, savory notes, fresh herbs, and some earth tones. The nose is showing a level of maturity as the tones have balanced out beautifully while there is a slight lack of depth. The Medium bodied feel is deftly balanced with tart, medium+ acidity and slightly bitter, medium tannins. The structure is more mature, though not fully mature. The tannins have a slight underripeness that detracts a little bit, while the nose is lifted and balanced.

  • 2020 Gilbert et Christine Felettig Fixin 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru

The nose shows off the intensity of the vintage with richer tones of raspberries, dark red cherries, currants, licorice, baking spices, earth notes, and violets. There is a robust quality to the tones, though they do lack some depth. The Medium/Full bodied feel is balanced and richer with chewy, medium+ tannins. This is very good, but it lacks some depth and expression across the nose and palate.

  • 2020 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

The nose is quietly intense and richer with tones of black cherries, raspberries, bitter chocolate, violets, earth notes, and some spices. There is good balance as this shows off a more robust side. The Medium bodied feel is richer and plush with crisp, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. This does show off the 20 vintage intensity, but does do it fairly well by showing decent depth across the nose and palate.

  • 2020 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Perrière 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

The nose is richer, but with a plush quality that makes it more perfumed with tones of plums, dark red cherries, raspberries, spice cake, dark red fruits, herbs, violets, and a touch of licorice. There is a brawny quality to the tones that really works for me while the depth is good, though it feels a little wound up. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced and plush with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The structure is youthful, but it isn’t too overpowering while showing off a more plush and upfront quality across the nose and palate.

  • 2014 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d'Orveaux Vieilles Vignes 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

The nose is sumptuous and perfumed with lovely and flowing tones of red cherries, red flowers, crushed rocks, red berries, earth notes, violets, and some herbal spices. There is very good depth with this showing a real open quality that is attractive and attention getting. The Medium bodied feel is refined and balanced with fresh, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is straight up pretty. There is still a primary quality to the tones, but everything has entered its window and should be there for a while to come.

  • 2019 Clarisse de Suremain Chorey-les-Beaune 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune

This is a new producer for me. Pretty quickly, the nose excites me as to how fresh and balanced it is with tones of red cherries, red berries, raspberries, red flowers, licorice, spice notes, and a bit of savory qualities as well. This is clearly not an old school Chorey as it shows more of the avant-garde in Burgundy with its red-fruited base. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and fresh with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is lovely and fresh with it showing really well now.

  • 2008 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

The nose is deep, layered, and gorgeous with savory tones of sour red cherries, raspberries, warm mushrooms, sour red berries, herbs, violets, and some savory spices. There is excellent depth and style here as it’s really hit its stride. The Medium bodied feel shows off the depth and layered qualities of the nose with a savory touch to boot along with crisp, medium+ acidity and refined, medium tannins. This is a real beauty right now and I feel like if I had the bottle in front of me the whole time that I’d have enjoyed it even more. As is, this is still wonderful and in a real joyful place right now.
