Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

I decanted this for 2ish hours before drinking. The nose is deep, balanced, and refined with a perfumed take to the tones of black raspberries, dark red cherries, heady perfumes, crushed rocks, pure dark red fruits, and various herbs and spices all playing beautifully together. The Medium/full bodied feel is well balanced and elegant with crisp, medium+ acidity and youthful, medium+ tannins. I can see this improving a lot with age. It is showing a lot of complexity already and it hasn’t even really gotten out of first gear.

  • 2020 Fattoria Selvapiana Chianti Rùfina Riserva Bucerchiale 91 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Rùfina

The nose is fleshy and perfumed with lovely tones of red berries, sweet red cherries, raspberries, crushed berries, rose petals, licorice, leather, and some fresh herbs. There is good depth while this already has a fresh, seamless quality that is enticing. The Medium/full bodied feel is silky and balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity and fine-grained, medium+ tannins that have some youthful bite. This is gorgeous now and it has room to grow with at least another 4+ years of aging.

  • 2013 Antico Podere Casanova Gandino Toscana IGT 89 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

The nose is rustic with a distinct earthy quality that strikes up front along with dark red cherries, raspberries, leather, funky notes, licorice, and some herbs. There is good balance to the tones, but they lack some depth that would add a layer. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is good and balanced, but it lacks that extra gear to get into the higher range.

  • 2016 Giovanni Chiappini Bolgheri Ferruggini 88 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri

The nose is balanced and well rounded with savory tones of dark red cherries, cranberries, herbs, dark red fruits, earth notes, tobacco leaf, and violets. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced and deft with integrated, medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. All this is lacking on the nose and palate is depth. But, for a more honest wine, this has done extremely well for itself. This is enjoyable and in a perfect spot.
