Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2015 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Noticeably tight and youthful off the bat. Fruity bouquet showing a little more opulently than the palate, with grapefruit, sudachi, lemon rind and peanut skin. Palate has youthful exuberance with almonds and green pears all showing a little lean on the midpalate. This needs time to gain more complexity but there is good potential.

  • 2018 Savart Champagne Premier Cru Le Mont des Chrétiens 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

My contribution. Opulent bouquet with white peach, green apples, chalk and stony minerality. Palate superb with green apples, nashi pear and starfruits. Mid palate nice and round with good power, complexity snd harmoniously balanced. Someone commented that this felt like a white burg with bubbles and I thought this was quite aptly described.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

  • NV Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru VP 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Always great fun to drink Egly - one of those house styles but tastes and drinks like a grower for me. Bouquet shows grapefruit, apple skin, lime rind and chalk with some power and viscousity on the palate. High acid on the finish but great balance with good complexity.

  • 2014 Louis Roederer Champagne Vintage Brut 88 Points

    France, Champagne

Thought this was a little foursquare. Very definitive house style with some peach skin and salinity - it’s a nice wind down drink but a little uninteresting.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 2018 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Boudriotte 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

The only thought that kept ringing while having this was that this feels so so familiar and I was a bit disappointed I didn’t call this. Floral and opulent bouquet showing reduction and flint, spearmint, lemon curd, grapefruit and pomelo rind. Palate exudes class and generosity with good length and intensity, coupled with layers of complexity and stony fruit. This is drinking so well today but will definitely improve in bottle. Yummy!

  • 2016 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Actually surprised when this was revealed because I’ve drank quite a bunch of 2016 Jacques Carillon and this was nothing like it. A touch of flint amidst a tropical bouquet showing pineapples, starfruit, yellow peaches and chrysanthemum. Palate showed some heft with minerality emerging on the end towards the finish line.

Flight 5 (2 Notes)

  • 2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Thought this was drinking like a top producer and at least like a premier cru quality. Bouquet showing weight and density with creme, meyer lemon and lime custard. Palate similarly hefty with good intensity and concentration. Needs a bit more time for this to develop more complexity and balance!

  • 2018 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos Tri de Chavigne 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Pierreclos

Guffens always impresses! Saline bouquet showing slate, oyster shells, jasmine and lemon curd. Some reduction here and high fruit concentration on the palate with good weight and balance. Waves of energy and brightness emanate on the palate culminating with crisp acidity and a long finish.

Flight 6 (2 Notes)

  • 2013 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

This showed incredibly youthful with guesses ranging from 2017 to 2021. Spicy bouquet with cream, apricots, orange peel, herbal spice and peanut skin. Palate is viscous with good depth, complexity and good purity of white fruit (peaches, pomelo). Finish was a little thin but good acidity and structure.

  • 2016 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Vibrant bouquet with yuzu and sudachi at the fore alongside unripe apples, pineapples, and starfruit. Palate marked by good acidity and ripeness, showcasing harmonious balance, tropical fruit concentration leading towards a lasting finish. This was more 2016 Jacques Carillon than the Puligny Perrieres
