Was picking up some wines from storage and it was my lucky day to bump into a friend who was having some drinks and meet the winemakers from 00 Wines who were visiting.
My first Salon. Still very primary, everyone agreed that it needed more time. Rich with a little sweetness that made it seem a little one-dimensional, but I enjoyed the hedonistic and pleasurable nature of the wine. Superb precision despite the sweetness.
Classic Krug - toasty and rich, had more oxidative notes than the Salon. Most preferred this but I felt that the Salon had more focus, whereas this had more weight. A real treat to have them together.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Wow my first Leroy white. Incredibly fresh for its age despite some nutty, oxidative notes. Some sweetness from the warmer vintage, the weight and finish on this left me in admiration.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Signature Fourrier nose - floral, candied fruit with some VA giving lift. Sweet, slightly spicy cranberry fruit on the palate, quite ripe for the vintage. Very seamless and elegant texture.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
My contribution. Usual H-N deep, intoxicating nose but with a slight hint of unintegrated oak. Classy dark fruit on the palate with some potpourri and spice. Approachable on opening but tightened up with air.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
New-school style, stemmy spice on the nose and light, sweet fruit on the palate. Fantastic purity and energy, much better than the leftover 2020 that I tried a couple of weeks ago that was too dense and dark.
From magnum. Luxurious Vosne-like oak spice on the nose with a similarly lush, rich palate. Sweet raspberry fruit with an old-school sensibility. A regal Burgundy at absolute peak.

1985 Ridge Geyserville 93 Points

Incredibly fresh for its age, quite Cab-like eucalyptus notes but fruit was slightly too sweet to be one. Had a dusty, old-school vibe that I enjoyed.
