A London merchant hosted a masterclass with Krug's UK representatives. It was a fun and informative session and confirmed how I think about this house. My WOTN was the 162eme, closely followed by the '04. As I get to know the Krug style better, with its high power and light oxidative notes, I am tending to feel it is a well-made wine but neither here nor there, and for more oxidative styles I still prefer Selosse and for more fresh styles Dom P2. Still a great evening!
NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 172ème 93 Points
France, Champagne
Krug Grand Cuvee 172. The latest release I believe and the least ready of the tasting. Bright lemon acid palate. Some brioche/toasted notes over time. Got more composed but seems a crime to drink this now. 93 in time? Hold.

2004 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 94 Points

2004 Krug. Tied with the 162 as my WOTN. Nice gamey/yeasty nose. Brioche palate with some white flower, jasmine tea, lemon confit. Medium finish. I wish the finish lasted longer but still a good drink. 94

2006 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
2006 Krug. More opulent but a little simpler than the ‘04. More advanced with an earthy finish. Gamey, honeyed finish. Seems at plateau drink now as unlikely to improve. 92-93

2011 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
2011 Krug. Fresh and yeasty nose. Green mint attack on entry. White nectarine and herbal finish. Hint of cherry. Nice enough but not as complex as the 162 or 04. 92-93

NV Krug Champagne Brut Rosé Edition 28eme 92 Points

Krug Rose 28. First time trying Krug Rose and I really wasn’t all that impressed, but could be too young as this is currently the latest release. Cherry and yeasty nose. First pass very sharp. Wave of red fruit. Second pass more strawberry and savoury notes. Pretty balanced if simple. 91-92?

Krug 162. Tied with the ‘04 for my WOTN. Gamey nose. Biscuit brioche palate. Long lively finish. Krug is not my favorite champage but this was one of the better ones. 94
