Magnum, 2016 vintage & 21/10/2020 disgorgement. Lime and lemongrass with subtle yellow florals. Leans a touch sweet but still refreshing especially when chilled down to a low temp. Medium length.
Only 500 bottles made. Ginger and straw with lemon and subtle smoke. Low-pressure bubbles, good acidity with a green apple flavour. Nice length as well.
Smoky, petrol notes with lime, honey and pear. Leans quite ripe on the palate as well but has good balance and control. Good length to this. Drinking well now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Diam sealed. Honeyed with lemon, spice, musk and talcum powder. Textured and plush, with excellent depth. Very solid and in a good middle aged spot for drinking. Will check in on my last bottle in 6-7 years.
Honeycomb, orange, spice, and toasty oak. Dense and powerful palate with lots of texture and viscosity. I like it but it is an "in your face glass of wine" and may not suit everyone.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Blind. Spicy, stalks and earthy with iron notes. Firm tannins, clamping down on the palate. You can still see the fruit purity but it is enveloped in structure. Still needs time!
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Cherry and raspberry on the nose, this is bright and aromatically pure. The palate leans ripe as well but still has depth to it. This is developing but isn't completely there yet.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Pretty floral notes with redcurrant on the nose, there is a hint at smoky meats as well. Palate leans pretty as well, with lots of pure red fruits. Medium length, trailing off slightly at the finish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Five spice, cherry, and raspberry with graphite and roses. Acid line gives this brightness and lift, though it also has plenty of structure with fine tannins. So much more to come with time.
Purple color with blackberry, cocoa and five spice. Tannins are fine but present with the exuberant red fruit flavours mixing well together to find good balance.
Cherry and raspberry flavors, roses and recurrant - red tinged across the nose. Tightly coiled palate, with all the structure that is to be expected here. Fantastic length, this is brimming with promise.
Lifted nose with roses and tar, graphite and spice. Spice and texture on the palate goes well with the dense fruit. Got better in the glass even after a long decant so could well soar with time.
Redcurrant, raspberries, graphite and violet. Palate is a little softer than expected, but has plenty of spice to contribute interest. A little in between youth and aged character right now, I think it should come around.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Graphite, plum, blackcurrant and spice. As always packs a lot of intensity and density into its frame while still driving through. Do sense a bit of alcohol warmth here but it isn't a distraction given how much else is going on. Quintarelli almost always delivers.
I'd hazard a guess at another 5-7 years to hit a plateau and then will hold for some time after.
Blind. Purple berries and violets with dark and dense black fruits as well. Palate shows off that same concentration with plenty of flavor but the vibrancy of the fruit remaining in place. Excellent stuff.
Plums, redcurrant, spice, cedar and cherry. Good balance on the palate with the red fruits working well with firmer tannins and oak structure. It's still young but also feels settled in.
Lemon, pear. smoke, spice, honeydew and slate. Beautiful balance on the palate, the sweetness and tangy acid working in partnership. Excellent length and style.
Floral with lime, graphite and pineapple. Vibrant with lovely acidity, super youthful, this has barely budged since release, but it was delicious then and it is delicious now.
Half bottle. Apricot, lemon, nutty, honey and mineral notes on the nose. Palate is full of texture and sweetness. Strikes that magic balance of acid and sweetness. Great depth and length, could well be mind blowing with time.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Coteaux du Layon-Beaulieu
Blend of 11/12/3 vintages. Honey, pear, orange peel, and some oxidative notes. Herbal frame to the palate, with that same honeyed oxidised character prominent. It's quite striking, but didn't really capture me tonight.
