Fabulous field lend, plenty of bacon fat from the gewurtz, body from the Gris, and definition from the Riesling. Lovely touch of residual sugar adds lusciousness. Very mineral, very intense. Drinking beautifully.

Very rich and opulent. Light gold in colour. Open for business and very powerful palate imporession. Great structure, a touch of honied complexity. A but of residual sugar adds to the body and approachability of this very serious wine. Drinks well now, but will certainly age.

Very characteristic of the 2018 vintage in Central Otago - very tannic and earthy. Showing plenty of development, and has a richer and riper palate than any other 2018 that I have drunk. I enjoy the complexities of this wine very much, but while it is a superb example of the vintage, it might not be everybosdy’ favourite…

Drunk next to the Prophet’s Rock Cuvée aux Antipodes 2018, vintage personality and terroir absolutely are to the fore. The Bendigo fruit of teh PR versus the cooler Gibbston fruit of the CP, and then of course the developed, rustic, and tannic nature of the PR versus the beautifully ripe, but very supple nature of this wine. The Coal Pit is all refinement, ethereal (and sweet) central fruit, with a velvety finish. For most of the table, this was the preferred wine, although I found myself more attracted to teh sterner nature of the 2018 vintage expression…
