Introduction

This is only a portion of what I tasted on the afternoon. It was pretty busy and taking notes kinda went out the window.

Flight 1 (12 Notes)

  • 2021 Belle Pente Chardonnay Belle Pente Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

The nose is balanced and open-knit with tones of navel oranges, pears, vanilla beans, lemon meringue, nectarines, marshmallows, and yellow flowers. There is good complexity to the nose, but the tones more sit on the surface rather than dig deep. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and textured with crisp, medium+ acidity. This is a good and seamless Chardonnay that shows good balance, but it lacks that next gear of better Oregon Chards.

  • 2022 Brick House Chardonnay Block Three Ribbon Ridge 91 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge

The nose is balanced and succulent with tones of apples, quince, nutmeg, vanilla beans, toast, pears, candied lemons, and yellow flowers. This shows off a slightly richer side without being too much on the richness. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with crisp, medium+ acidity that persists. This has some lovely texture and freshness to the acidity that adds a vibrant quality as well. This could likely use a couple of years to fully come together. There is excellent balance across the nose and palate while showing a level of richness without being close to big.

  • 2018 Corollary Blanc de Blanc X Omni 92 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

The nose is well balanced and vibrant with tones of red apples, quince, brioche, pears, baking spices, almond paste, and some toasty notes. There is excellent balance while showing a bit more leesy and process qualities. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced and textured with tart, high acidity that shows off a bit of bite. The structure is fairly integrated even with the bit of bite from the acidity. There is excellent texture and depth to the feel that adds a level of refinement. This is drinking beautifully, but with a style that can still age longer.

  • 2022 Cristom Chardonnay Royer Vineyard 92 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

The nose is pristine and vibrant with fresh tones of saline, apples, yellow flowers, nectarines, limes, white fruits, pears, and some mineral notes. There is very good depth with a real elegance to the tones as they play beautifully together. The Medium/full bodied feel shows off the freshness of the nose while having a textured and refined sense along with tart, medium+ acidity that makes your mouth water. This likely could use a few years to fully come together. What is there right now is really good, but it doesn’t feel in full harmony just yet.

  • 2021 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard's Cuvee Whistling Ridge Vineyard 92 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge

The nose shows off good tension and freshness with well balanced tones of gun flint, some reduction notes, pears, apples, yellow flowers, crushed rocks, and a touch of baking spices. There is excellent depth that really blossoms after a few swirls. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance and tension of the nose along with racy, medium+ acidity. This is certainly young and will benefit from a few years of aging. What is there already is really good, but it feels like it’s holding back a bit right now.

  • 2022 Drouhin Oregon Roserock Chardonnay 89 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

There is a fresh and lively quality to the nose with tones of lemon peels, pears, saline, mineral notes, apples, and white flowers. The Medium bodied feel shows off the freshness of the nose with crisp, medium+ acidity. This is a good Chardonnay, but it just lacks slightly on the nose and palate in some ways. Maybe aging will help add some depth and expression, but it doesn’t feel like it will necessarily improve improve.

  • 2021 Le Cadeau Chardonnay 88 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains

The nose is showing off a more malo-driven style with a distinct creaminess to the tones of lemon curds, creamed peaches, red apples, Bosc pears, kumqaut, navel oranges, and yogurt notes. The Medium bodied feel shows off the creaminess of the nose with integrated, medium acidity. This leans more towards process than it does freshness. It’s not really my style and really sticks out compared to other wines at the tasting.

  • 2021 EIEIO Chardonnay Yates Conwill Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

The nose is fresh, elegant, and perfumed with balanced tones of lemon curds, apples, pears, nectarines, vanilla beans, flinty notes, elderflowers, a touch of reduction, and a bit of toast. There is excellent depth as well even with this feeling like it is holding back just a slight bit. The Medium bodied feel shows off the elegance and balance of the nose with crisp, medium+ acidity that leans into a lingering finish. This is just lovely. It can certainly use a few years to fully come together, but it is starting off at a real good point.

  • 2021 Morgen Long Chardonnay Willamette Valley 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

The nose is lifted and fresh with a pristine nature to the tones of pears, key limes, peaches, nectarines, apples, white flowers, flinty notes, and a good dose of saline. The Medium bodied feel shows off the freshness of the nose along with racy, medium+ acidity that has some good cut. This is delicious as it leans more into the salinic side of things. I would love to see where this goes with a few more years when the youthful vibrancy gives way a little bit.
