  • 2021 Villa Raiano Aglianico Campania IGT

Quite light smelling, almost dilute, showing red plums, spice, but with some contrary alcohol warmth. Earthy and savoury, though dialled back, plummy fruit, softly textured burr. Hmm. Entry level/lighter style/young vines?

  • 2021 Fontodi Chianti Classico

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Savoury red cherry, a little herbaceous note pushes things to the fruit tea space. Simple though not unpleasant nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, super persistent tannins are powdery, fruit fresh not sour though. Long, balanced, lovely.

  • 2019 Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Alcohol prickle, oxidised notes show baked caramel, cherry fruit with a slightly jubey fruit lozenge underpin, polished oak. Medium plus intensity acidity, cherry, bitter drying chewy tannins here and a meaty underpin, all persists long It's a bit tight and a touch out of whack, I'd usually say time but that oxidative note is a problem. Not the kind of BdM I like.

  • 2022 Domaine Courbis Cornas La Sabarotte

Savoury black berry fruit with a tiny fruit sweet core and a touch of charcuterie meatiness, crushed rock and black olive. Juicy, savoury black fruits with a little liquorice, tight tannins in support showing a little caramel and sweet spice, .Young but balanced and pleasant.
