• 2017 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle Domaine du Duc de Magenta

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

  Yellow / straw colour (slightly deeper than its flightmate for sure). Served a *little* warm which i think may have coloured the initial impression. Spiky nose, on the palate there's breadth as well as depth and something, estery? This is lovely now but I would have been happier had this been in bottle and the Puligny in magnum.
  
  Some debate at the table as to how well this will age, and how much upside there in in aging it further. Pleased to have a couple of these left and contemplating whether one makes it to the Christmas table...

• 2017 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne Domaine du Duc de Magenta

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

  Pale straw colour. Initially served cooler than its flightmate - more delicate, more linear on the palate. This is just lovely right now. A quick wine-searcher gives me the answer to why I find it so enjoyable :-)

• 1998 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Served from magnum. I've had good luck with 98 Burgundy, and the streak didn't end here. Colour - garnet with slight bricking. Gorgeous nose, some earthy tones, a kind of autumnal fruit character. The gorgeousness continues on the palate - lovely structure but tannins fully in place, lovely length to this. To my taste the most "Jadot" of the wines served tonight.

• 1999 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

  Starts off tightly coiled, almost shrill. Something glossy, almost reductive to it. With time and air (and perhaps the food) pulls itself together to become much more well behaved. Lovely texture in the mouth - this somehow felt, if not glossier, more polished than I expected? Certainly it dealt very well with being the only 1er in a GC crowd.

• 1985 Louis Jadot Musigny

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

  Amazing, beguiling nose - something earthy there, but also ethereal. On the palate - starts off really lovely, again ethereal, delicate, lovely structure, but the finish - it degenerates into something sweet and almost porty. Joking not joking - the key to loving this is just to keep sipping and not letting it finish.
  
  Some discussion whether this is a wine-making fault, or whether other bottles would be more complete - my sense was that other bottles might be very different, but it is unlikely that I will ever be able to test this hypothesis. Either way, a very generous donation, and I'm pleased to have been able to taste it.

• 2002 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Domaine Louis Jadot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Hmm - I wanted to like there, there's a lot of goodness going on, nice structure, decent fruit, but a kind of burned, almost rubbery character that I can't get on with. Fellow diners did not share my impression, and I was kindly offered the opportunity to smell others glasses, which had the same character for me. My hypothesis is that there's a certain molecule that I am sensitive to, like some people can't stand Coriander...I remember this experience first with a 1996 Clos de Sarpe, which I found undrinkable and friends really loved.

• 1996 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

  Brought forward a flight as a last minute change by our more than excellent Master of Ceremonies. My notes are getting a little less coherent by this stage - I wrote "wine of the flight. Authoritative. Mouthfeel". Whatever - it was excellent - really lacking the negative characteristics of the 96 vintage - a fellow diner remarked that this was the "first good 96" he'd tasted.

• 2001 Louis Jadot Chambertin

  My this is lovely - so tightly coiled still, both on the nose and the palate. Still some of that cherry sourness - if are lucky enough to have some of these, no rush to drink I don't think.

• 2001 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

  Now - my notes are *definitely* getting more unreliable at this stage, but this was a tale of two wines for me. Slight bricking in the colour - tertiary characters starting to appear on the palate, lovely mature red Burgundy but one perceives that this is a Maison vs a Domaine wine. Our host, in a fit of absurd generosity, decided to open a second bottle. This was really a step up - concentration, line, still some zip to it - my mouth is watering now just thinking about it.
