Brilliant tasting of great producers in Chassagne and Puligny. In the end the conclusion was that producers is more important than the village

    Tasted next to Ramonet Chassagne 2019. I liked this better than a year ago. Medium intensity on the nose with white peach, subtle oak, hazelnut, herbs (fennel?), white flowers and a green note (early harvest?). Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish

    20% new oak for 12 months. Lean and elegant

  • 2019 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 91 Points

    Tasted next to Alain Chavy Puligny Montrachet Les Charmes 2019. This was the better wine and I was initially very impressed, but after tasting the rest of the line-up and retasting this (at a somewhat higher temperature), this felt flabby and not as precise as I would like to (from 92+ initially to 91). Much riper than the Chavy with oak much more noticeable (33% new wood). Medium+ intensity on the nose with white peach, ripe lemon, hazelnut, popcorn, caramel, minerality. Medium+ acidity, long finish.

    Almost more Meursault. Quite some concentration on the palate

  • 2020 Dureuil-Janthial Puligny-Montrachet Les Corvées des Vignes 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

    Tasted next to Pierre Girardin Chassagne Montrachet 1 cru Vigne Blanche 2020, both modern winemakers with a clear winemaking style. Medium+ intensity on the nose with signature reductive notes, flint, minerality, lime, white peach and toast. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish. Riper on the palate than on the nose, good concentration. Not necessarily a lot of terroir to be found at this moment. 91-92

    20% new wood, 12 months and then 6 months in stainless steel

  • 2020 Pierre Girardin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vigne Blanche 93 Points

    Tasted next to Dureuil-Janthial Puligny Montrachet Corvee des Vignes 2020, both modern/new generation winemakers makers. Medium+ intensity on the nose with quite some of the signature reduction, which in the beginning a bit a blanket for the other aroma’s. With more time in the glass it showed ripe citrus, a menthol note (that also really showed in the finish) and some slightly ripe stonefruit. High acidity, a full, dense palate, and a really long finish. 92-93

    Would love to revisit this in 3-5 years

  • 2020 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 92 Points

    Tasted next to Benjamin Leroux Chassagne Montrachet 1cru Les Embazées 2016. Medium intensity on the nose, very refined, elegant and at this moment a bit understated. Loads of minerality, lemon, lime, green apple, unripe yellow apple, flintiness, a bit of reduction (not PYCM style), gentle use of oak. Medium+ acidity, long finish. 92+

    This needs more time, more than 5 years I would think, to really start showing itself

  • 2016 Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées 92 Points

    Tasted next to Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1cru Cailleret 2020. Dark yellow in color. Medium+ intensity on the nose with baked yellow apple, dried apple, ripe fruit, macademia nuts, touch of tropical fruit. Medium+ acidity, nice concentration on the palate with some development in the glass, long finish.

    There was some discussion whether this wasn’t too advanced for its age, it definitely had an oxidative note to it

  • 2017 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

    Tasted next to Robert Ampeau Puligny Montraches Combettes 1997. Medium intensity on the nose; rather shy at first, becoming more pronounced, very refined. Only some reduction, lemon, white flowers, almonds. Medium+ intensity, long finish

    Others were much more enthusiastic than I was. Very well made, lovely, but slightly to shy too be outstanding

    [Tasted blind] Correctly called Chassagne (although it is fair to say there was a 50/50 chance). This was straight out marvelous! Although from a warm vintage, this was so refined and concentrated. This was together with the Bienvenues Batard Montrachet from Olivier Leflaive 2017 the WOTN. So long and beautiful!

    Only 1 barrel per year, 0,06 hectare

  • 2015 Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 93 Points

    Tasted next to Morey Coffinet Chassagne Montrachet 1cru Blanchots Dessus 2015. The Morey was much more outspoken, this was almost tight. Felt like it was picked early (given the acidity and the green notes), chalky minerality. Medium+ acidity, long finish
