Bright and vibrant bouquet giving way to yeast, red apples, lime curd and yellow peaches. Palate has good complexity and weight with a well-rounded texture and vibrancy. This is nice and grippy with plenty of tension and intensity, drank well on its own but even better with some crudo and chicken pate.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
First ever DRC and while a premier cru, it was a good glimpse into why this is amongst the greats. Popped and poured, the lush and focused bouquet threw forth wild strawberries, incense smoke, plums, violets, candied apricot/mango and tons of stems. Palate similar to the bouquet with the addition of sour cherries and iron. Texturally incredibly silky and sensual, with time in glass, this put on good weight and complexity. Great fruit concentration and persistence but personally thought it was a bit thin alongside the Cathiard and Dujac.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Popped and poured. Bouquet absolute beast and powerful with red plums, cherries, tobacco leaves, cedar, saddle and gunpowder. Palate however slightly tighter, not quite showing the same opulence as of yet. With time in glass, this put on massive weight with darker fruit tones shining through a but more - this intensifies in glass and broadens in an elbows out fashion but I would still give it more time, these 2009s are a little grumpy still and not ready. On the last pour, this is much denser and concentrated, balance is there between fruit and structure. Keep this away for 5 to 8 years!
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Popped and poured. Fruit forward bouquet showing plums jam, bayberries, saddle, earth and slightly grassy. Palate is velvety and silky with good depth and intensity. With time in glass, vosne spice emerges along with cola, cedar and sarsaparilla. It also shows slightly green after about 2 hours or so. Finish is slightly hollow with black fruit and herbal undertones while tannins still grippy. I would perhaps give it a bit more time in bottle and hope the greenness disappears.
