France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Excellent wine. Some light reductive aromas. Creamy pear and yellow apple, saline minerality. Rich but good cut. I thought I picked up some licorice with an octopus carpaccio. Loved it.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
I don't get to drink a lot of really good Burgundy, so this was a treat. Violets and spice on the nose. I kept thinking of the color purple for some reason. I guess the floral, violet notes. Berry fruits, good structure, but elegant too. Really enjoyed this and it went well with a pheasant dish.
This was very impressive. I loved the nose. I picked up something different each time I smelled it. Light smoke, charcoal, very light herbal notes, tobacco. Dark plummy fruits, fine leather, soft tannin, good balancing acidity. A real treat.
I last it this about 13 years ago. I loved it then. I liked it tonight. Fairly intense aromas of mostly fruit. Darker tone fruits. It came across a little sweetish, and very slightly raisiny to me. Perhaps because of the previous wines. Plenty of structure here, and it seems young, but that raisin note worries me. I guess that is the warm 03 vintage showing. Good, but underwhelming tonight considering the other excellent bottles on the table.
This improved on the second day, and the raisin note disappeared. Still there was a hint of sweetness that I didn’t prefer. Ann thought it was great.
Very brown in color. Sweet, with fig, and dark brown sugar. It is always fun to drink something this old and reminisce about what was happening then. l liked this but felt it lacked a little acidity to make it really special. Perhaps with a little more air or if it was a little warmer that might help.
