Introduction

Before our tenth anniversary trip to the UK, my wife Dio and I discovered what might be Atlanta's best-kept wine and food secret... PS Atlanta. This private airport lounge featuring James Beard Award winner Linton Hopkins' cuisine completely transformed our expectations of pre-flight dining. What we thought would merely be convenient airport food wound up being one of the most impressive meals of our entire anniversary trip - and it happened before we even left Atlanta. The wine program proved equally impressive, featuring quality selections from respected producers that elevated our pre-flight experience far beyond typical airport offerings. You can read the full story in my blog post "Why I'm Secretly Hoping Our Next Flight Gets Delayed" on heavypourwine.com.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • NV Lanson Champagne Père et Fils Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Drank before our flight at PS in Atlanta. Medium gold color with heavy, nutty characteristics and good bubbles, though it showed a bitter finish on the back of the mouth. My wife paired hers with caviar service while we relaxed on the comfortable couches in The Salon lounge area - the perfect way to start our anniversary celebration.

  • 2022 Bodegas Forjas del Salnes Rías Baixas Leirana 91 Points

    Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas

Drank before our flight at PS in Atlanta. Light gold color with light tannin that suggested possible new oak influence and medium acidity. This Spanish white proved a lovely pairing with the exceptional jerk chicken I ordered at the bar - perfectly spiced with just enough heat to excite without overwhelming. The wine showed beautiful balance and demonstrated that PS takes their wine pairings seriously

  • 2022 Domaine Damien Martin Pinot Noir Bourgogne 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Drank before our flight at PS in Atlanta. Great light nose enhanced by the bottle having been open for a while, which likely improved this young Burgundy. Absolutely delicious and an impressive finale to what turned out to be one of the most unexpected wine experiences we've had. This caliber of wine program sets PS apart from airport lounge experiences.

Closing

The 30-second private TSA screening and direct car ride to our plane (with gourmet snack boxes in hand) was the perfect finale to this revelation. PS has completely ruined us for normal airport experiences - we now find ourselves automatically checking if PS is available every time we book a flight, and we actually hope for delays so we can spend more time enjoying their exceptional hospitality.
