Introduction

herded Viv, Mike and Karthik to Thai Potong for supper and a catch-up. I grabbed a selection of wines from the cellar, dragged them along and forced them down everyone's throats

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2018 Stein St. Aldegunder Palmberg-Terrassen Riesling Spätlese feinherb

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Red apple with a little honeyed stone fruit, tiny earthy note. More of the same on the palate though the acidity lends a touch of green apple crunch as well. Off-dry and well balanced though, perhaps, tending to the soft. Pleasant.

  • 2020 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese feinherb "Onkel Peter" #4

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Fresh and floral with quite orange citrus notes, touches of pineapple and a little grapefruit on the nose. In the mouth the slightly unripe pineapple is to the fore with a little grapefruit here as well. Super fresh acidity is offset beautifully by a pinch of residual sugar; perfectly balanced in fact. Light, positively ethereal in fact. What a charming wine.

  • 2022 Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz Pepper Series

    Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Grampians

Aggressive splash decant, then left in the decanter for about half an hour, back into the bottle and then consumed about two hours later. Blue and black berry fruits, a little peppery note, touch of rose petal on the nose. Fresh and juicy on the palate, the peppery note translates as well as the blue and black berry fruits, silky tannins. Still a little elbows but young especially under screwcap. A good midweek lighter style Australian Shiraz.
And great QPR at 18 AUD

Closing

We had quite a diverse selection of food so it was fun to see what went with what - the Stein with chilli pork belly, the Hofgut with ginger scallops, soft shell crab, the Mount Langi with the beef pad thai...all in all a lovely evening and great to see my old colleagues.
