    Heidi's group at St Genevieve on a bone chilling early winter Minneapolis night. Usually, I'm looking for a post dinner walk w/ some of my wine buddies. Not tonight!:). CV,KB,LI,SS,DD & CS. What can I say? My all-round fav glass of Champagne. Occasionally topped only by Cristal, for me. I have 2 in the cellar and 6 more on PA of the 2012. For me that's as "all in" as I get on any wine I buy. Delighted my local wine buddies are in the same camp. We need a big ready stash of Comtes! This was pristine, complex elegant and finessed as always. Our first btl out of the gate and except for late arriving Kevin's pour this btl emptied at lighting speed with the 5 of us who showed up "on time". Thanks Lonny! Insider joke, "on time" is arriving between 30 & 15 minutes B4 our reservation.

Always happy to have one of these in my glass and this might be the best of several recent alliterations. Lifted, classy, deep & compelling sans any signature Krug ox notes. Beautifull! Thanks Dave!

Putting aside the occasional premox bt as we wait for Dauvissat to use diam corks this is as sure a bet in Chablis as you can find other than Fevre and we ended up w/ bonus Fevre Clos too tonight. This showed all the class and placidity you expect from Dauvissat even in a less vaunted vintage. Dauivssat deliverers! Sadly pricing has jumped and moved out of my reach. I've got about 5 btls left.   • 2018 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points

Dave Ds bonus btl. Fevre might be our last shot at truly great Chablis at a cost most of us can still afford. When Davissat recently joined Raveneau as one of the two Ferrari priced Chablis I kissed both goodbye. So here's the last of the top tier that we can all still afford. Bucket list Chablis for The Everyman. Fantastic btl tonight and delighted to own this vintage myself! Sniff & sip this and no doubt about what makes Grand Cru Chablis one of the greatest whites on the planet. Thanks Dave!

Candace's btl and my WOTH. If this the only CDP producer I had ever drank, today I'd be buying a ton of CDP. That said, based on years of drinking CDP from at least 20 other producers I've personally never tasted another version of CDP possessing the magic of this singular master, the late Henri Bonneau. The opportunity to drink an Henri Bonneau CDP might be akin to playing a Pre-war Martin D28 guitar or driving a 1970 air-cooled Porche 911T or, standing on top a CO '14er & finally, catching your first wily 18" Brown Trout on the fly! Name your own bucket list experiences. This is a bucket list wine experience to seek out! Tonight blind, I may have guessed this an aged Ruchottes Chambertin from Mugnier Gibourg. This had a huge nose full of damp forest floor and mineral. The palate was so suave, elegant & silky with an intense mix of beautiful dark, red fruit and more damp forest floor. Perhaps the '99 Chave flighted with it was simply pancaked, for my palate? I did take an extra pour of this! Easily, my WOTN. BTW, loving Henri Bonneau CDP is not a broad endorsement for the region's wines. 13% alc.

    Heidi's group at St Genevieve on a bone chilling early winter Minneapolis night. Usually, I'm looking for a post dinner walk w/ some of my wine buddies. Not tonight!:). CV,KB,LI,SS,DD & CS. Siggy's btl. My most vocal table mate loved this wine and gobbled up my possible 2nd or 3rd pours:). Which I'm more than good with. It's fun to see the reaction of the 6 of us to each wine as they're poured. I believe Dave Ds fav region is Northern Rhones, so no surprise there. I'm sure Siggy loved it and Kevin complimented it. Lonny & Candace rarely rave or disparage. For me I found the balance & elegance compelling but nothing else rocked me. Its a youthfully pretty red I found easy to drink but uninspiring....at this point. Very nice! Not a head turner for me....yet. And, may never be but I'd like to try it again in 2030+. Dave D felt it was in pocket & rocking at 25yrs out. I was still looking for compelling depth. Looking at the recent CT notes I'm the odd man out as this is capturing huge scores. For me personally, a 92pt experience. Delighted to have a chance to drink this but NRs just might not, be my thing.

Kevin's bonus to the bonus btl! Ok, this was borderline bonus btl crazy but on the other hand, I adore this producer and gladly took a small pour of this near the end our evening. This might be the single best, under the radar, producer in Chablis. I've said it before and I'll say it again.... "a poor man's Dauvissat". The Defaix wines have a docile mouthfeel conveying a sense of serenity & finesse paired with plenty of fresh, yet tamed energy. Then there's the producer's penchant for late releases and oh la la! This is classy, expansive & intriguing. Had this not come in the last 30 minutes of dinner w/ drive home awaiting I would have had more than one tiny pour. Thanks Kevin!

My wine & the last poured. Opened at 12:30, test sampled & decanted till 4:30. Back in the btl for trip to venue. Removed cork at venue on arrival. This is drinking quite well but "God Only knows" this may go another 25yrs? I expect this will further improve w/ 3-10yrs. I have one left & won't open B4 2030 when I turn 75. In the last couple yrs I've determined that North & South Rhones are not my fav reds. That may be true of most Barolo & Barbaresco too? I may sell off 25-50 btls of each if it makes sense & focus on Burgundy & Chardonnay. Tonight, the nose was compelling & a wonder to behold in my Burg glass w/ dark berries, forest floor, other harmonics. The palate is intense, concentrated & youthfully fresh. Excellent minerality, raspberry w/ hints of herbs, Asian spice & others mysteries for the coaxing. This is unlikely to see my chopping block list:). Didn't hear any raves from my table mates but most of were likely out of wine tasting gas by then. I shared the remaining couple glasses in the btl w/ the staff.
