2020 Domaine de la Solitude (Lançon Père et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape

60% Grenache noir 15% Syrah 10% Mourvèdre 10% Cinsault 5% Counoise, Terret, Muscardin, Vaccarèse
The grapes are hand-picked. After a selection of the best bunches by hand on a sorting table, the grapes are crushed and destemmed tehn via gravity in concrete tanks. 15 % of the wine is then aged in oak barrels and demi-muids, 85% in concrete vats for 14 months.
Yelds: 32 hectolitres/hectare. 80 000 bottles are produced.

Fragrant, fresh red cherry, floral notes, light cherry, some herbal notes, thin oak frame.
Palate shows smooth tannins, a bit warm (15%), the fruit is darker here, med body, a touch bitter, med finish

2020 Domaine de la Solitude (Lançon Père et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Barberini

The grenaches come from old vines planted on the high Quaternary alluvial terraces surrounding the estate. These famous soils of pebbles of quartzites and clays, they give the Cuvée Barberini a great tannic and aromatic power. 65 % Grenache noir 20 % Mourvèdre 15 % Syrah
Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best bunches in the vineyard then on a sorting table, the grapes are crushed and partially destemmed. They are vinified by gravity in concrete vats. This vintage is aged for 65% in barrels and half barrels for 20 months and 40% in concrete vats. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining. The Vintage 2020 Yields: 30 hectolitres/hectare. 5000 bottles, 300 magnums

The nose is thicker than 2020 Tradition, again fresh, the oak is more apparent but not aggressively so, clove, whole spice.
Palate follows the same pattern, dense fruit, the tannins are there, elevated acidity, again warm, mineral, tensity, long finish

The grapes come from the oldest vineyard of the Domaine de la Solitude planted at the beginning of the last century. It is located on the western slope of Crau on a terroir of safre. Planted mainly with centennial Grenache. 100% black Grenache
This great Terroir is always vinified separately but only the great years, 5 vintages of the last 10 the Cornelia Constanza is bottled.
Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best grapes in the vineyard and on the sorting table, the grapes are vinified in whole bunches in a concrete tank. This wine is age for 40% in foudre and 35% in concrete vat for 20 months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. The vintage 2020 Yield : 25 hectoliters/hectare ; Total production : 3000 bottles, 150 magnums.

Far more ethereal than 2020 Barberini tasted before, full on violet floral notes, blue berry, some black berry in the back, nice whole spice notes, plus clove.
Palate shows smooth tannins, fine acidity, again "blue" character, shows bitterness, depth and seemless structure, long finish

2020 Domaine de la Solitude (Lançon Père et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vin de la Solitude

It is a tribute to the ancestor Paul Martin, who was one of the first French winemakers to sell his wine in bottles in the 18th century under the name "Vin de la Solitude". Made according to the 18th-century vinique art with very different blends where Grenache is not dominant. The wine consists of a large number of co-fermented grapes with much longer macerations than those made today. The four original labels of the Wine of Solitude were reissued.
Counoise 24% Grenache noir 22% Syrah 20% Mourvèdre 19% Cinsault 7% Clairette blanche et rose 5% Bourboulenc 1% Roussanne 1% Picpoul 1%
The grapes of each grape variety are harvested by hand and then put in vats over their maturity. The first varietal Syrah is tanked in early September while the latter, Counoise early October. They are cofermented in whole bunches in a wooden conical tank. The alcoholic fermentation is very long, it lasts more than a month and the vatting has lasted 80 days. Aged for 18 months in barrel the wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.
The vintage 2020 Total production : 2683 bottles and 180 magnums.

Sitting halfway between Barberini and Cornelia in the nose, combining elements of both but somehow staying unique. It shows ripe fruit core, blue and black berry, some smoke/tobacco notes.
Palate shows depth of fruit, blue and black berries, strong tannins, 15%, thick oak frame, warmth, mineral, some floral notes, full body, long persistent finish.

2020 Domaine de la Solitude (Lançon Père et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Secrète

The Grenache are from the oldest part of the Domaine de la Solitude, planted by the great-grandfather at the beginning of last century it is located on the western slope of “La Crau” on a terroir of safre. The Syrahs flourish on the fresh soil of Safre des “Blachieres”.
65% centennial black Grenache 35% Syrah
These two great Terroirs are always vinified separately but only the great years, 5 vintages of the last 10 Secret Reserve is created.
Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates. After a double selection of the best bunches in the vineyard then on a sorting table, the grapes are vinified in all cluster for the Grenache and the Syrahs are destemmed. The vinification takes place in concrete tank. The is carefully aged for 20 months and 45% in barrels. The barrels of exceptional qualities are made from Colbert oak from the french forest of Tronçais. The wine is assembled and refined in Foudre barrel for a year before being bottled without filtration or fining.
Vintage 2020 Yield of 28 hectoliters / hectare. 1600 bottles, 50 magnums produced

Entirely different animal this one. The nose is very smoky, charcoal even, spicy, some gamey notes, clear red fruit, cranberry/pomegranate, carnation floral notes.
Palate follows the nose, thick fruit, spicy with bold tannins, warmth, 15%, full body, mineral, shows tensity, red and blue fruit core, whole spice, never ending finish.
