France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Richly textured nose, melon, citrus; full bodied, lovely blend of richness and freshness, great burgundy character, medium-plus acidity, balanced alcohol; medium-plus length finish. Very lovely white burgundy. 92-93
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Aromatic, lovely red fruits, mature; palate is light-medium bodied, red fruited, a tad thin through the midpalate, well balanced alcohol and medium-plus acidity; medium length finish. Very nice wine, but not superlative. 91
Moderate amount of well settled sediment, double decanted. Medium ruby, moderate bricking; aromatic, classic Pauillac nose with green and red bell pepper, some blackberry, slight graphite, some tobacco and old cedar; palate is medium bodied, mature complexity, fruit has largely receded and now more tertiary, medium alcohol, some bell pepper, balanced medium acidity; finish is medium length. A very nice mature bordeaux, seems ready to drink now, and at least at this early taste not quite at the level of the best vintages of Pichon Lalande. It may open up with more time in the glass. 91 At dinner, this has opened up. A bit rustic still, but nicely balanced. 92
Intense aromatics, elegant, almost plummy, blueberry?; medium bodied, balanced medium alcohol, medium-plus acidity, more fruit driven than cedar or anything else. Very lovely. 93+
Youthful, interesting nose with some roasted red pepper, some primary fruit; palate has impeccable balance, more youthful than my last taste of this 5 years ago, red fruits; long finish. 95
Aromatic, floral, orange blossom; palate is medium bodied, vibrant acidity, sweet but balanced, orange flowers, slight honey; medium length finish. A lighter year for Rieussec with a bit less complexity than usual, but very nice and at maturity with a very long plateau ahead of it. 92-93 Day 2: I think this has picked up just a bit of richness compared to when it was first open, and a bit more depth. Overall a hair better than yesterday. 93
