2018 Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 91 Points

12 o'clock to start the festivities. Golden yellow. Crisp green apple nose, honey blush. Lovely tingling sharpness to open, warmth backed with a nice acidity. Fresh with a hint of butter brioche. Delicious!

2023 Rockford Black Shiraz 91 Points

Black as night with a fine mousse. Sea breeze nose, violets and cassis. Very young and vibrant. Taste is lovely, it's deep dark black cherry and blackcurrant with fine mousse and acidity. Will get better with some more age I think.

Fine pale gold. Pear and strong grip, whote flowers nose, lots of edge, some oiliness, very vibrant and interesting. Taste has a sharpness with a distant but present honey tone, and it's crisp and precise, tangy and poised. Will save for the prawns on Christmas Day - fabulous!
Christmas Day, nose is till crisp lemon, flavours are piercing with a toned honey oily edge to balance it, stands out beautifully against the salty sweetness and of the prawns with the aioli.Great wine and Aligote ages well.

NV Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Brut 89 Points

Firm yellow gold with a vigorous mousse. Dried brioche and brine nose, fresh. Flavours are clean with faint butter biscuit and green apple. Nice quaffer.

1995 Penfolds Grange 92 Points

Bob's cellar. Dark red, black too, hints of bricking. The consistent Penfolds black fruit, damson, liquorice and red cherries appears on the nose, a bit of black pepper, and tannins. Slightly salty opening, consisted fruit, very full and powerful, peppery tannin, warm alcohol. Very typical. Interesting? Maybe not, but a surefire crown pleaser. Day 2, iron and blood in the nose, some saltiness again, a lot of dark black fruit and dark chocolate too, has power but less grace than the Gruaud Larose, edgy tannins too. Nice but not subtle. Day 4, remain s of the bottle from Christmas Day, spicy liquorice and menthol nose, burnt rubber and cassis - still good. Flavours are less good than the nose, salty and receded fruit, still good though.

2000 Château Gruaud Larose 93 Points

Bob's cellar. Deep dark red. Whoosh of friendly black cherry and damson, forest floor sous bois and red currant, tiny bit of funk and menthol. Woof! Fabulous. Beautiful warm red and black fruit, soft aged tannins, really well balanced cassis, tremendously French and refined. More enjoyable than the 1995 Grange. Day 2, soft and refined, salty black cherry, dash still of peppery tannins, beautifully melded together. Quality aged St Julien from magnum.
Day 4, remains of the Christmas Day magnum. Aged red nose. Taste has softened a lot, red fruit still present but has thinned out significantly. Past its best now but still drinkable.
