  • NV Domaine Nowack Champagne Assemblage S. A. Extra Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

From Vandières in the Vallée de la Marne, limestone sands on - yes - marne, a blend of 60% Meunier and 40% Chardonnay, indigenous yeasts, fermented and aged in oak, base vintage 2021, vin de réserve from 2012-2020, disgorged March 2024 with a dosage of 1 gr/l. Full colour, very rich and vinous, ripe but not oxidative at all, cool minerally core and tart citrus fruit, energetic finish. Quite a distinctive, weighty style, but I enjoyed it.

  • 2017 Azienda Agricola Valentini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 96 Points

    Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Decanted. An essence of Montepulciano, concentrated but without any weight, black cherries and warm spices, plums and currants, hint of cocoa, floral lift, deep minerality, real elegance and beautiful drinking flow, totally pure and transparent, effortless polish and a lovely touch of sauvage, fleshy yet elegant, silky texture, hint of carbon dioxide, mildly sticky tannins, energetic finish, long and dreamy finish with succulent amarena cherries. Serene.
