Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2018 Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot 1er Cru Clos Blanc de Vougeot 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot 1er Cru

Brief notes. I never knew that Vougeot had blancs! This definitely confused the folks at the table. Fruit driven bouquet showing off lychee, apricots, chrysanthemum and pears. Palate definitely ripe with good intensity and concentration - would have preferred a bit more tension but this is drinking nicely. Blinded I thought this could have been something like a Gouge NSG les Perrieres blanc.

  • 2019 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Brief notes. Tropical and fruit driven bouquet with starfruits, finger lime, lychees and pear. Palate different from bouquet, hazelnuts, peanut skin, red apples and apricot curd. This felt a bit heat damaged in my opinion.

  • 2019 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Brief notes. Flinty and reductive bouquet with lemon curd, honeysuckle, seemingly cooked apples and nashi pear. Lacked freshness and vibrancy that most 2019s should still have, especially having since tried the 2019 Clos Richemont not too long ago - some bottle variation here perhaps.

  • 2017 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Brief notes. Citrus and tropical bouquet showing orange peel, lemon curd, limestone and pineapples. Palate had some richness that with good tension and persistence. Side by side with the 2019, this had more intensity and precision.

  • 2006 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 94 Points

    France, Champagne

These P2s are always a lovely drink and just go superb with some seafood. We paired these with some fresh amberjack and the combination was superb. Complex bouquet as always with the P2 with almond skin, yeast, limestone, biscuits and nougats. Palate superb and shines in elbows out fashion, along with palm smacking acidity - one gets the sense that its a bit grumpy on the palate and needs a bit more time to calm down.

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 1987 Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Brief notes. This had such balance between elegance and sensuality, weird that I am thinking of these descriptors but perhaps time in bottle has allowed this to fully develop and mature. Bouquet showing quite youthful with cola cherry, cloves, cardamon and smoke. Palate showing purity of fruit with layers of red and dark fruit meshing and unfurling - tannins silky at this stage and finish a little tired but I think this was my wine of the night.

  • 2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Brief notes. Next to the 1987 Faiveley Marechale, this showed just a bit more elegance and finesse. Mugnier imprint is familiar and recognizable here. Floral and red fruited bouquet opens up to mulberries, roses, spices and sandalwood. Palate opens with good minerality, tea leaves, raspberries and bay berries. Good acidity and fruit structure here with softening tannins.

  • 2020 Domaine Prieuré Roch Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Le Clos des Corvées 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Brief notes. First instinct when I tried this was that this was Prieure Roch, NSG Corvees but was thinking 2019. But, in line with most instances, one simply doubts one's gut and tries too hard to be clever lol. Bouquet classic Prieure Roch with the good natural animalistic funk, candied strawberries, stems and violets. Palate showing good energy, a bit of iron, earth, tart cherries, bayberries and good minerality. Tannins a little stiff but definitely good structure and concentration.

  • 2022 Domaine de la Commaraine Pommard 1er Cru Clos de la Commaraine 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Brief notes. I've always wanted to try this domaine and excited I got the chance to. Some stemmyness on the bouquet with violets, blue fruit, earth and spices come to the fore. Palate has good concentration and surprisingly good balance - thought this was something like a 2016 chambolle - except couldnt think of any monopoles.
