  • 2018 Fairchild Estate Chardonnay Stones Russian River Perrarus Block A3 97 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Pungent aromas of soft fleshed pears with a clean streak of pineapples. White flowers that add a floral touch, with a gentle hint of peaches. Pretty damn aromatic.

    Palate is a bit weighty and ripe but has an awesome swiftness that keeps it lifted and full of speed. Orchard and tropical fruits, and clean, broken stones bring contrast to the fruit with a tasty bitterness.

    Much better than when I last had it a few years ago. Keeping this chilled is incredibly important. This ended up taking an ice bath (coughMJPcough) throughout the entirety of the tasting. Lower temps bring speed and swiftness, whereas room temp brings the Napa and weightier side of this wine.

  • 2005 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard 97 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Nose of gentle yet firm red and blue berries. Stones, pink flowers with soft earth and finely powdered graphite. Light fruit stays but with some time and air, dark fruits slowly surface as well. The aroma gradually intensifies with more and more time.

    The palate initially show expected integration, with some lighter red fruits and elegance. Dark fruits eventually emerge, as if it’s waking from a long slumber. Savory graphite, earthy minerals. Like the nose, the fruits on the palate intensifies with time as well. That dark, brooding fruit returns to the palate, showing its hardened integration with its own elegance.

    This is gonna need a bit of air from that hibernation its having. Would've loved to have had this a few years earlier but it's still in a great drinking window, and for the next handful of years too. It can go the distance if that's how you like your poison. This was beautiful. This is that longed hug, that missed pull in and pat on the back with a close friend you haven't seen in a long time.
