Introduction

Champagne to ring out the old year at our place, then dinner at the Knickerbocker.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

With some light hors d'oeuvres at our place.

  • 2006 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon 93 Points

    France, Champagne

A delightful light garnet color with an attractive (mostly) red berry nose. A very fine and soft mousse. The medium plus palate showed the red berries (strawberry, red cherry, red currant) along with lite brioche, citrus, some minerality and soft acidity. Will continue to hold but certainly enjoyable now.
Very refined and easily drinkable -- a fine start to our New Year's Eve celebration.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

With the Ceasar salad.

  • 2022 Fournier Père & Fils Sancerre Les Belles Vignes 91 Points

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre

From a 375 ml bottle. A soft and appealing Sancerre. Very light grassy and grapefruit notes on the nose. These carry over to the medium bodied palate along with some lemon, green apple and minerality. Nicely harmonious due to the 6–8-month fine lees aging in stainless steel tanks. A great pairing with our Ceasar Salad appetizer.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

With the T-bone steak for four.

  • 2022 Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 89 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

PnP, but the second glass was better than the first. Black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, plum and a bit of spice on the medium bodied palate, with integrated tannins. Fruity and straightforward. Not bad for the Daou brothers' entry level Cab.

  • 2020 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Beringer Estates Selection Knights Valley 90 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley

PnP. Dark fruit and earthy nose. A medium to plus bodied palate with dark red and blue fruits, earth, spice and a touch of vanilla, mostly integrated tannins, and a medium finish. Should hold for several years.
A more 'serious' Cabernet than the fruitier Daou we had alongside.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

As a midnight toast to ring in the new year.

  • NV Les Caves de Landiras Baron de Rothberg Brut 85 Points

    France

The restaurant's selection for the 'midnight toast'.
A light sparkler made from Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano) and Airen. Lightly fruity nose with yellow apple, peach and some citrus on the palate. Persistent bubbles.

Closing

Hoping for a healthy & happy 2025.

Note: the food and service at Knickerbocker has declined, so we will look for a different venue for this year.
