Introduction

Our sixth trip to the Napa Valley continues ― and this time, we’re there on behalf of Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. The vino from Continuum and Mending Wall is flowing, and the sights are to die for! To read all about it, and view plenty of photos and videos, just head over to HeavyPourWine.com and check out my post entitled "Day Two of the Official Napa Cultivation Trip" now…

Flight 1 - Tour and Tasting at Continuum (3 Notes)

  • 2022 Continuum Sauvignon Blanc Sentium 91 Points

    USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino

Tasting at Continuum with Carissa Mondavi. This wine is made by Carissa's sister Ciara. Ciara also did the wild iris label artwork. Winemaking includes lees contact in small vessels. They source old vine Sauvignon Blanc from another vineyard in Mendocino Co.. Good bite to it. Lemon tart balanced. Brad - heavypourwine.com

  • 2021 Continuum Novicium 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasting at Continuum with Carissa Mondavi. This is their 2nd label wine only available for purchase at the estate. From 17 to 20 year old vines. Gentle pump overs. What goes into this is from barrel sample tasting. 59% cab, 36% cab franc 3% pv. Double decanted for two hours before we tasted. Earthy and savory. Good mineralty. This was showing really well (even better than the first wine) so grabbed some for my cellar! Brad - heavypourwine.com

  • 2021 Continuum Proprietary Red 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasting at Continuum with Carissa Mondavi. Decanted for three hours before we tasted. Much more tannic and backwards than the Novicium. Super expressive nose. Red fruit. Brad - heavypourwine.com

Flight 2 - Tasting at Mending Wall (5 Notes)

  • 2022 Mending Wall Stone on Stone 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasting at Mending Wall. We were told that Thomas Rivers Brown likes to drink clean white Burgs. This wine reflects that style: clean and fresh. I thought it was a lovely creamy white with a good bit of acidity. Brad - heavypourwine.com

  • 2021 Mending Wall Mortar & Stone 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasting at Mending Wall. The first red of the flight: It's their "Everything but Cab" blend. Fun drinker with red fruit with light tannin. Note that it contains Petite Syrah from the Palisades Vineyard that we visited the day before. Pretty cool! Brad - heavypourwine.com

  • 2021 Mending Wall Cabernet Sauvignon Godward Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasting at Mending Wall. They gave us some info on the Godward vineyard: After Constellation bought BV, BV ended the contract and stopped sourcing fruit from this vineyard. So, they were able to source here for the first time in 2021. Winemaking is minimal intervention approach. TRB wants this to be approachable early but can also be aged. Red fruit. Toasty. Has that "Rutherford dust". Low tannin. Only opened an hour before our arrival and already super approachable and balanced. My favorite of all the wines that day.

  • 2021 Mending Wall Cabernet Franc Oakville Ranch 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Tasting at Mending Wall. This is kind of a unicorn wine as it was only made for one year. 75 cases. Opened about an hour before our arrival. Black spice and not a lot of fruit. More tannin than the CabSav before it. Good juice but my least favorite of the tasting. Brad - heavypourwine.com

  • 2021 Mending Wall Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Calistoga

Tasting at Mending Wall. Opened that morning before our arrival. Dark inky purple with mouth drying tannin. Very nice showing. I grabbed some of this and the '22 P.S. for a good reason: Will be super fun in the near future to do a side-by-side of this and the petite sirah from Palisades Canyon once they release it. Will be fascinating to see the similarities and differences between G. MacDonald's and T.R. Brown's juice when using the same varietal, vineyard, vintage and winemaking facility!
