Introduction

Four of us got together for a mini at Young Joni (DM,LI, BB,KB). David jokingly said we needed to show Ann Kim some love, hence the title. Not sure she needs it, but we're happy to get back here a couple times a year. The food always meets expectations and service is excellent. We ran into some wine reps while here and got a couple bonus pours. Thanks Erin!

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Vintage 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over over an hour plus. This is still so bright and on point, laser focused, crisp pear, yeasty, pear panna cotta, limestone minerality, lemon zest, with a very light oxidative undertone, but this has so much lift and energy. Always excellent, this is right there with the best bottles, but only a mag left now though. 93+ to 94pts.

  • 2014 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Viña Gravonia 92 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Light gold color. PNP, drank a glass plus over an hour plus. Plenty of minerality with the signature lacquer character, sherry, lemon blossom nose, lemon, melon, tart lemon rind and bitters with a savory, caramel and nut note on the finish. Consistent with the last bottle.

  • 2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé 93 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

Pale salmon color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. Beautiful, with a gorgeous mix of red fruits and stone fruit, so fresh, strawberry, watermelon, vivid floral notes, orange peel, melon, wet stone, sea breeze and orange oil. Tangy and tart with mouthwatering acidity. Totally in the zone.

  • 2014 Alberto Marsetti Valtellina Superiore Le Prudenze 92 Points

    Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore

Medium plus red color. 30 minute slow-O, drank a glass over an hour. Tar, truffle, wet earth, saddle leather, red cherry, spiced finish with fine, pleasant tannins. Very pretty and really in a good place. Should drink well for another 3 to 5 years.

  • 2015 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Vin Santo del Chianti Classico 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico

Small glass over 20 minutes. Raisin, caramel, syrupy, baked apple, fig tart, nutty, sweet, plum, heat. Quite tasty, though it doesn't take much to get the job done.

Flight 2 - Bonus Wines (2 Notes)

  • 2022 Pierre Girardin Meursault Éclat de Calcaire 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Pale gold color. Drank a glass over 40 minutes. From 5 lieux-dits: Grands Charrons, Limozin, Sous La Velle, Tillets, Vireuils. Stone fruits, very bright and lively, melon, pear, lemon wax, earthy, brine and crustacean minerality, medium bodied with a tart lemon peel finish. This was youthful but so expressive already. This is a winner. 93(+)pts.

  • 2021 Domaine de la Côte Pinot Noir La Côte

USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

Medium dark red color. PNP, small glass followed for an hour. Over-ripe black cherry, cherry cola, herbal, weedy, clove, green pepper, bold and forward. Not something I find appealing in a pinot. Gut score is 87. If you like this style and region you'll feel differently about it.
