Introduction

This was first dinner of the season and the 737th overall. We returned to honor Chef Michael with the "Chef of the Year" award. This was also a time to name new Chief Cook and that went to Chris and he is the right person for this position. Bravo.

Flight 1 - Jean Laurent NV...wonderful, crisp, small bubbles, good nose 18pts.

Big Eye Tuna Tartar on Lotus Root Chips, Foie Gras Mousse Canape "En Gelee" and cheese filled Gougere

Flight 2 - Ch. Rieussec 1990 Smooth, life left? Good amber color and a delight to have with the course 17.5 pts.

Three preparations of Foie Gras: Au Torchon, Poele, and Strudel with Pickled Black Mission Fig Compote. Warm Brioche

Flight 3 - Kistler Vineyards 1996 McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay...Our bottle was old, tired, close to DOA and really undrinkable Not scored.

Three preparations of Lobster: Ravioli, Butter Poached Tail and Late Vegetable Succotash Scented with Pineau de Charantes

Flight 4 - Ch. Lynch Bages 1985 Very good color, tasting like a mature bordeaux with the wet bag taste...17.5 pts.

Roast Squab and Kobe Beef Short Rib Provencal Tomato Tian, Sauce Perigord and Creamy Pomme Puree

Closing

Great start to the season. This dinner was done differently in that we gave Chef Michael the wines and then he put together the dishes to go with the wine. A great evening and a great Chef!
