    Drank by itself and it was very tart. Looking for nice, everyday food wines, and it did smooth out a bit with peanuts. Evi had a sip and said she liked it. I'm not convinced, will try some others first.

  • 2020 Paolo Conterno Barbera d'Alba Ginestra

    The second in our attempt to find new affordable food-friendly reds.

    Somewhat simple, but pleasant. Reasonable acidity that went well with our snack; not over the top like the last one. Evi found good, but not a must-buy.

  • 2022 Domaine du Bel Air (Pierre et Rodolphe Gauthier) Bourgueil Jour de Soif

    Another in the row of food wines to try. Decent. A nice wine, but a bit too rich and oaky for our purpose.

  • 2023 Domaine Grosbois Chinon La Cuisine de ma Mère

    Next in the test of daily drinker food wines. This was definitely the kind of Chinon I was looking for: clearly no oak (turns out they also don't use for their high end wines), and only 12.5% alcohol. Aromas of sour cherries, fresh and light.

    Had with spaghetti bolognese. It was too acidic for us both, even though this was what I had wanted vs the tomatoes.

    Served at last minute, warmer than I would have liked. The site suggests à servir à 16-18°c, which this wasn't. Might try again with the wine just slightly chilled.

  • 2019 Charles Joguet Chinon Les Charmes

    Another in the tasting of inexpensive food wines. A bit heavier and higher alcohol than I'd like for a Chinon, but good acidity and rich flavor. Went very well with the pork chops in a tomato/vegetable sauce.

    Re-order. Did not decant. Slightly chilled beforehand, which definitely makes a difference.
