Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Château Haut-Batailley

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Dark fruits, bit inky, black plums, sweet spices, brett that’s a bit in the way. Med+ bodied, polished texture, tannins already softened down a bit. Dark fruits, sweaty saddle, smoke, leather that covers up the fruit a bit. Cassis comes back into the picture. Good length, just med acidity. Plenty of extraction and felt heavy, slightly clumsy side by side with San Leonardo.

  • 2011 San Leonardo San Leonardo

Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

So perfumed and floral. Red fruit driven, more cherries than plums. Lots of restraint, delicate and pretty. Med bodied, mellow silky med tannins. Juicy acidity, med+ and soft. Balanced mix of fruit and tertiary, forest floor, leather and mushrooms. Not as much complexity as the Haut Batailley but much better put together, and classical - ironically. Full on elegance and class.
