A little citrus; lemon over lime, stony minerality, touch of pretty peach. Medium plus intensity acidity, wetly dilute, similar flavour with citrus in the ascendancy, touch of minerality.

A little struck match, grapefruit over stone fruit, touch f spice, pretty nose. Tart and bitter, hard and foursquare on the palate - time required here.

2022 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Fresh citrus, little stone fruit, smidge of sulphur, touch of slightly leesy fatness. Juicy, fleshy but with an acid line, muted fruit, 'smidge of burr, super persistent, medium plus length. Nice.

2022 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vieilles Vignes

Touches of butter, spice, citrus and stone fruit; lemon; apricot. Juicy, fleshy, tangy, sense of breadth but not overwrought. Nice.

Medium minus intensity aromas, touch of richness stone fruit, a little almond meal. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, fresh stone fruit, slight bitterness on the finish. Touch of non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm

2023 William Fèvre Petit Chablis

Green citrus, cold pebbles, a little grass. Medium plus intensity acidity is a little sharp, muted flavours, tiny smoky notes. <shrugs>

2023 Jean Defaix Domaine Chablis

Lemon, a little grapefruit, tiny mandarin notes, floral as well. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity but well managed, a little leesy creaminess, fruit as per the nose, pretty good for an entry level Chablis

2023 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir Découverte

Struck match, bacon fat in charge of the nose, a little citrus in support, touch of creaminess. Fleshy rather than juicy, rich, soft in fact. Not very Chablis

2023 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir de Fyé

Like the Decouverte this has struck match notes, a touch of almost tropical fruit; pineapple here as well, butter. Fresher than the Decouverte on the palate, non-delineated fruits, a little lees and butter. Better balanced but not quite for me.

Bacon fat and citrus, a little minerality. Medium plus intensity acidity, more citrus on the palate which proves a little sharp. Slightly dilute, leesy finish lends softness. Meh

2022 Domaine Thierry Laffay Chablis Vieilles Vignes

This is quite reductive and green on the nose. Green and yellow citrus married to mineral texture and a touch of salinity, it's a touch unripe and a little out of whack. Perhaps tertiary notes will help.

2022 Domaine Thierry Laffay Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons

Slightly reductive again, bacon fat, muted citrus, touch of minerality. Juicy, fleshy, acid tends to medium plus intensity but integrated, mineral texture offers grip, non delineated citrus with a slight stone fruit note. Interesting. Nice.

Reductive note not so obvious here but still present, stone fruit over citrus but both a little muted as served quite cold. Juicy, rich, textured burr travels hand in hand with non delineated fruit, long. Pretty good.

Marzipan, slight almond meal, citrus over stone fruit. Medium plus acidity, quite hollow in the mouth, touch of bitterness on the finish, lacks a mid palate. Odd

2021 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Rich and generous on the nose; tending to almost tropical ripeness. On the palate it's also rich and generous but with sufficient acidity to keep things fresh, a little solids savouriness encroaches on the finish. This is balanced and very good but, like a couple of other wines on show today, not what I would call very Chablis.

2021 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros

Smoked bacon fat reductiveness is in charge of a little stone fruit, marzipan and almond meal. Juicy and fleshy on the palate, slightly tart, alcohol warmth is a touch intrusive, it's a bit out of whack, finishes slightly bitter.

A little cream, butter over citrus and stone fruit with the (standard today) struck match reductiveness generally throwing it's weight around on the nose. In the mouth it is again, a little creamy, non delineated fruit, butter, a touch of oaky bitterness, silky texture. Meh.
