Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2006 Vieux Château Certan 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Glass at dinner before the tasting, paired with venison. This was excellent, loads of dark chocolate and plum on the nose and palate without being overdone. More dark chocolate and emerging truffle notes. 95/100

  • 1988 Château d'Yquem 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Glass at dinner before the tasting, paired with lobster. Beautiful mahogany color and palate. Brandied fruits and honey. Slightly shortish finish. Really nice if slightly overshadowed by some of the top vintages after dinner. 95/100

  • 2017 Château d'Yquem Y de Yquem 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux

Grapefruit, pear, melon nose. Underripe honeydew melon on the palate. Still seems too young. 92-93

  • 2022 Château d'Yquem

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Apricot and nectar. Green stem? A little simple at this stage. Better hold for years than drink. Score withheld.

  • 2010 Château d'Yquem 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Tied with the 1990 as my WOTN. Beautiful musky nose. Apricot, tangerine, honey, saffron. Super long finish. 97+/100

  • 2005 Château d'Yquem 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

A hair behind the superlative 2010 but quite similar. Luscious nose. Higher acidity. Slightly on the lighter side. 96-97/100

  • 1990 Château d'Yquem 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Tied with the 2010 for my WOTN, obviously in a different maturity phase. Musky buttercup nose. Brandied tangerine palate. Saffron. Endless finish. 97+/100

  • 1985 Château d'Yquem 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

The weakest of the line-up but still going strong at 40 years. Nice saffron and brandy nose. A bit weaker on the palate with semi sweet grape and book leather on a shortish finish. Drink up. 93-94/100
