    Comparatively, this was a lot tighter and coiled. With time, bouquet produces shades of blood orange, iron, meat spice, prunes and macerated cherries. While palate had great intensity and concentration, it was unfortunately a little closed so we took half a bottle away to see how it improves - and boy did it need time. Trying it 2 days later, palate is now much more opulent with finesse and power coming through in spades. Balance has improved greatly now with fruit, power and minerality coming together nicely.

  • 2013 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 97 Points

    First time having the amoureuses but was super excited to try this. Right off the bat, this was tight and tight - in that instance, a bit of fear crept in and I asked myself, "did we make a mistake on this?". This definitely needed a bit more time to open up so this was relegated to the corner for a short 30-45 mins and happy to report that we were well rewarded. In that time, this opened up significantly with aromatic and sensual bouquet of violets, blood orange, iron, and bayberries, danggui, cloves, cardamom and sandalwood. Palate showed roumier typicity in terms of density and concentration yet also super velvety and sensual - texture was viscous and almost sauce like, leading towards seamless and fine tannins

  • 2007 Faiveley Musigny 96 Points

    Like the below reviewer, only 169 bottles produced with 2 magnums - super stoked to try this one!

    Only my second time having the Faiveley Musigny and happy to have tried it again. I love where the 2007s reds and whites are at this moment and typically veer towards popping them. Aromatic and lifted bouquet kicks off with pomegranate, wild cherries, incense smoke, saddle, dried violets, and sandalwood. Palate showed sensuality and elegance, with such transparency yet also high concentration of fruit. Finish had the signature of the vintage with notable acidity - I must note that after about 2 hours, it started to break apart a little which takes away a little from the overall experience but in that first 2 hours, this was such a wonderful experience and all that you want in Musigny.

  • 2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet 100 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru

    While I was hesitant on this bottle because of its youth, it was an incredible "aha moment" when this was showing so absolutely gorgeously from the get go. Aromatic and explosive bouquet opens up with meyer lemon, sudachi, white peaches and musk melon. With more air, more tropical yellow fruits like starfruits, yellow plums and kiwi emerged. On the palate, there was first incredible persistence followed by striking intensity and finesse here, all supported by intertwining layers of transparent fruit together with sublime balance between minerality and acidity - fantastic amount of tension and finesse here with a finish that goes on for forever. While this was young by my usual standards, the level of completeness that this had was simply timeless and incredibly classy.

  • 2008 Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne 100 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Upon serving in glass, I approached this with tremendous anticipation yet with a tinge of trepidation - would this be a case of having hyped this up too much but yet be a disappointment? Thankfully, this was not the case. Initial bouquet started off a little tight but with air soon expanded, offering citrus and power in spades. Yellow peaches, meyer lemons, starfruits, green apples, chalk, flint, toasted walnuts and cream on full display. Power and concentration hits you hard on the palate with depth and intensity that fans out in an elbows-out fashion yet with all of the richness and power kept in check by mouthwatering acidity and supported by a good mineral core. Finish is super long and incredibly addictive. This showed up today in such a brazen and audacious fashion, as if it was almost saying, "This is me in my full glory, handle me if you can".

  • 2017 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    This was actually more lovely and enjoyable that I thought! Aromatic and focused bouquet featuring a nice array of spices and herbs (sage, aniseed, cardamom, danggui), along with smoke, sandalwood, raspberries, plums and tulips/hibiscus. Palate shows a darker fruit profile but with equal purity, with plums and dates a little more on display, supported by a core of minerality, sadle and earth. This was chiseled and surprisingly open for business today but will only get much better with even more cellar time.

  • 2016 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Floral and lifted bouquet with rose petals, violets, cherries and pomegranate with a nice earthy and minerality core supporting this so very well. Palate throwing forth ash, smoke and dark plums in silky fashion. There is nice concentration and density, although with the 2016s I find that sometimes alcohol gets a touch high with ripeness that is slightly jarring.
    Texture is chewy and viscous, tannins a bit chewy and stiff - would keep this away for a few more years.

  • 2017 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    MDT has always been one of my favourite plots from Raveneau and it’s always such a pleasure especially when they start singing. Slightly tropical bouquet with clementines, setoka oranges, smoke, beeswax, chalk, marigolds and chrysanthemum. Palate shows off high toned lemon and sudachi, along with cream and beeswax, together with a nice sliver of salinity. Finish is long with crisp and mouthwatering acidity that gives you a kick up your butt! Still incredibly young so keep it away!
