    Unofficial starter wine to dinner party - opened it while waiting for everyone to arrive. Incisive, apple and citrus fruit, goes well with protein-rich starter foods. Very good, I wish it had a bit higher dosage to add some roundness, but that is the trendy style these days.

    Official starter wine for the evening with crudites. Great. Rich, brioche, mouthfilling, elegant as well as full. Another great showing for this wine.

  • 2019 Domaine Thomas Morey Bâtard-Montrachet 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Bought on release, sound cork. Very complete wine, delicious, round, still very young. Lots of WOW remarks at the table. Remarkable after an hour, immense palate presence, rich, goes on forever on palate. Initial notes 95, later 96. Incredibly good, very Thomas Morey pure beauty. Can't say enough good things about this wine. Delicious with crab vichysoisse soup, and then later with cheeses several courses later. Should last for decades. If you only have a bottle or two, hold on to them as should be better with time, but not criminal to try if you more than a few bottles.

  • 1996 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Last bottle of a dozen purchased 25-26 years ago. Sound cork, near perfect fill. Rich, another complete wine (I guess my descriptor for Grand Cru wines that demonstrate excellence in muliple dimensions). Full, long, rich flavor set of mature white Burgundy nearly 30 years old. Has honey and marzipan notes. Great with crab vichysoisse and several courses later, cheeses. Preferred by some at the table to the 2019 Thomas Morey Batard-Montrachet served at the same time for its complex maturity. Holding up very well, and if you have this wine, no signs of being old. Am sure in magnum format will continue to hold for some time. Brilliant showing. This fell in line with Michael Apstein's assessment in his comprehensive review of Latour's Corton-Charlemagne.

  • 2002 Louis Jadot Musigny 97 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

    Bought on release, sound cork. Near perfect fill with a mm of ullage. Opened 5 hours before serving, 3.5 hours in carafe. Still young, huge and not just complete ... it's spectacular! Still has some forepalate tannins but smooth, delicious, kaleidescope of Pinot flavors and minerals and intoxicating scent. Sappy, dances on palate yet has immense authoritative presence. Liquid velvet. Forever length. Wine of the night for me. Showing better than when last tried in 2018. Paired with ... meatloaf course. Decades of life, wish I had magnums.

  • 2002 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot 94 Points

    Last bottle of 2 or 3 bought on release. Sound cork, no visible ullage.
    Classic Clos Vougeot dark fruit flavor set, no longer austere Cisticerian fruit, but rather ripe, taut, super length, and somewhat more attractive than my point score. Held up beautifully over 2+ hours. Would buy in the secondary market if you see it. Much better than the not-yet-ready bottle I had ~ 10 years ago.

  • 2014 Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes 93 Points

    From case of 12 bought on release in 2003. Still yellow-gold color, Peaches, marzipan, lots of aromatic acrobatics, delicious with flambed bananas Foster and vanilla ice cream. Long length. Bags of life.
