I had not expected to come acrosse this rare Champagne again - but I am glad that I did. It has turned into a confident wine, with more power and weight than I remember and than I generally would expect from the 2011 vintage.
Tasted blind. It immediately reminded me of Sancerre La Grande Côte 2019 from Pascal Cotat, the botrytis fruit masks the varietal typicity, honeyed and rich and fleshy, but once you know, you notice the tell-tale white pepper note. Impressive stuff.
Fresh and juicy, cool and minerally, strawberries and flowers, finely grained tannins, transparent and precise, more elegant and much lighter than its 14.5% ABV would suggest, delicately creamy finish.
Tasted blind. Concentrated, hint of heat, noticeable alcohol, tropical fruit and slightly resinous oak, more about power than about elegance, decent length. I called De Fargues or Guiraud, late 1990’s. Not far off!
