A Visit to Champagnes Chardonnet et Fils

Very much enjoyed a bottle of the Reserve at l'Alambic in Reims where this was Champagne du Mois on a visit last year.

• NV Chardonnet & Fils Champagne Cuvée Tradition Extra Brut

  France, Champagne

  Tasted at the domain. 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir. 3 years on the lees. 4 g/l dosage. White toast, sesame, some stony minerality, touch of pineapple stalk greenness. Place is bracing with some limes and lovely acids. Tiny bit hollow on the mid-palate.

• NV Chardonnet & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs

  France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

  Tasted at the domain. 3 years on the lees, 7 g/l dosage. White flowers, sourdough breadcrumbs, lemon and slate. Palate has lovely zip, a touch of rose petal to complement the creamy lemon posset. Really good stuff - will buy in bottle and magnum.

  Tasted at the domain. 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, 6 years on the lees, 6 g/l dosage. Lime oil, cotton wool, a touch of praline. Red apple and cinnamon too. Palate is rich and long, lovely acids and apply freshness. Will buy in mag.

  France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

  Tasted at the domain. 1 year in oak, 14 years on the lees, 6 g/l dosage. Red fruits, a hint of scraped vanilla pod, some lemon, lime pith. Palate lovely and rich, spicy apple and brown toast. Will buy.

• NV Chardonnet & Fils Champagne Brut Rosé de Saignée

  France, Champagne

  Tasted at the domain. 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Pinot Meunier. Two years on the lees, 8 g/l dosage. Forest fruits, cherry, ripe strawberry, maintains lovely freshness. Palate dry and red fruited. Will buy.

As was the case previously with Loncle in Villers Marmery and Bochet Lemoine in Cormoyeux (both Alambic Chamapagnes du Mois) another under radar source of well made accessible fizz.
