Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2022 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

Straw yellow; medium intensity aromatics, seashells and minerality; palate is medium-bodied, excellent medium-plus acidity, nice richness while maintaining vibrancy, 13.5% alcohol; medium length finish. A very nice example of village Chablis, though not head and shoulders above other thoughtful producers from the region. I think this will drink well for the next decade. 91
Day 2: This held up well. Still tropical, youthful, fruit forward, well balanced.

  • 2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Stood up for weeks and decanted off a small amount of sediment. Light ruby; high intensity aromatics with tons of red fruit while decanting, in the glass some strawberry, cherry, a bit of earthy complexity, truffle, floral; palate is light bodied, tons of fruit, a bit of overripeness without alcoholic heat (like candied cherry), high acidity, balanced but elevated alcohol, tannins are fully integrated and quite nice; finish is medium-plus length. This is a pretty Barolo, surprisingly youthful but actually in a lovely place for drinking now. 93-94
Even better with a bit of air. Autumnal leaves, some mint, some BBQ spice. Really nice.
Day 2: Similar impression: A very good barolo at peak, but lacks the life-changing complexity of the 1995 Musar served alongside...

  • 1995 Chateau Musar 96 Points

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Balsamic, soy, tons of savory, plums; palate is medium bodied, high acid, slightly oxidative but remarkably fresh tasting with blackberry fruit, stellar balance, medium alcohol; long finish. This is a unique vintage for Musar, among one of the most unique wines in the world. 96
Day 2: Garnet color, still very tertiary but this retains its remarkable freshness from when it was first opened. For those who like this profile, there is nothing else like it.
