Full nose of damp leaves at the bottom of the bramble patch, with some violets. Cranberries and strawberries with a lovely earthiness. An approachable wine.

The intensity starting to ramp up at this point in the flight. Macerated strawberries and some bright acidity and chalky minerality in nice tension.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Full nose of ripe cherries. More cherries and dried cranberries on the palate with some incisive but delicate acidity. Long finish, in balance.
ND commented that it's more reminiscent of its immediate neighbor to the east Morey St Denis

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Darker, smokier nose. Darker fruit, too on the palate: plums. Spicier then the other wines in the flight: anise and cinnamon. Long, mesmerizing finish. Someone commented that this was more Vosne than Chambolle - JG disagreed: it's part of the range of Chambolle flavors.

Flight 4 - Chambolle part 2 (4 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Reticent nose. Generally a more delicate set of Chambolle flavors. More floral, violets. The rasperry and strawberry was there but subtle, not bursting out of the glass. Generally a delicate wine that charmed with its finesse not its intensity. Typical Barthod, commented JG.

Full nose of, well, boiled cabbage and fruit. Intense fruit, almost strawberry mousse. Long and balanced. Just a terrific wine.

What a fascinating wine. A nose of bamboo and black tea leaves. More smokey, dried twine, but with rich plummy fruit, and floral elements (rose petals?) and generous tannins. Brought to mind the combination of rose/tar of a Nebbiolo.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Much as I love this producer this wine suffered by comparison with the flight. Vegetal nose, with that satisfying compost bin scent. Jolly red fruit and a strong core of tannins that come out in a jumble rather than in harmony. Hard to not like despite itself.

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Lovely nose of spices like anise and a smoky element. Quite tight still (still!) and a lot of acidity. But there was fruit for sure and more anise.

  • 2010 Frédéric Magnien Bonnes Mares 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Stormer of a wine. Incredibly complex nose: leaf-pile, cocoa, vanilla and some hawthorn. Strawberry preserves, cinnamon and tobacco. Swirling mouthful of flavors that lasted and lasted.

  • 1996 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

LT Chambolle dinner at La Voile
Full nose of musk and compost. Red currants, vanilla and anise. Remarkable intensity, fresh youthful acidity for a wine of this age. Did fade fast in the glass though.
