Closing
This was an interesting set of reds that are certainly not made in a large scale Paso mold. Part of this is that some of the cuvées come from cooler Central Coast sites, but in addition, the winemaker seems intent on more gentle extraction. We enjoyed the relative lightness, purity, and early accessibility, but these are not wines to bury deep in the cellar.
2023 McPrice Myers Viognier Larner Vineyard

Medium yellow. Aromatic, high toned, herbal. Medium bodied with a light degree of sap. Nice grapefruit rind, spice, sap, and very good acidity.

2022 McPrice Myers L'Ange Rouge

Light red, fade outer 2/3’s. Light weight and supple. Brambly brightred fruit, excellent acidity, spice, licorice, and cocoa. Low tannins. Elegant, straight down the middle, very drinkable now, quite enjoyable. I like its purity and lack of artifice.

2022 McPrice Myers Altas Vinas

Clear light ruby. Lower register bark and blueberry. Medium weight, light sappiness. Lovely discretely ripe dark fruit, soil, and more tannin than the Ange Rouge. Solid acidity, some soil and vanilla underneath. Supple, accessible young, nice feel, definitely in the California mold but not overdone or overextracted. Very good.

2022 McPrice Myers Por Allá

Moderate ruby, lighter outer third. Strong olive and black fruit scents. Blueberry on the entry, excellent acidity, some soil, late olive. Supple with a citric twist, unencumbered by wood, well integrated tannins with some late grip. Needs 5+ years but already enjoyable.

2023 McPrice Myers Syrah Brave Fortune

Bright purple core, not opaque. Violets and pine resin, light wood-attractive nose. Medium weight, slightly lighter than the Altas Vinas. Spicy blueberry, brambly whole cluster notes, underlying chocolate, bright acidity, moderate but soft tannins. Amazingly tasty and approachable for such a young Syrah, excellent lingering finish. Despite its ABV, it is definitely not a bruiser.

2022 McPrice Myers Cuvée Paper Street

Beautiful deep purple. Very fragrant dark flowers and high toned pine resin. Subdued fruit on the nose. Medium+ weight. Piquant and earthy with bright acidity. The fruit is behind the structure, which finishes with substantial fine tannins. Clearly less forthcoming than the 2023 Brave Fortune. The biggest, most serious and age worthy wine of the range we tasted. Excellent potential.
