  • 2014 Mossik Cellars Syrah Kahn Vineyard 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tart black fruit and hints of pomegranate wrapped in wild earthy notes. Reminds me of Dutraive. Lovely and fresh with great density. Very excited to see how this evolves. It feels so young still!

  • 1995 Chateau Musar 98 Points

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Double decanted in the morning, cork 1.5 cm soaked through. Right out of the bottle, it had dark fruit, red fruit, lovely balsamic notes, Brett oxidation, preserved raspberry, dried raspberry perfume, hints of orange peel. It felt super awake. I re-corked it after double decanting. Phenomenal length and acidity.

After an hour: very classic Musar with sweet oxidative notes, dried orange peel, balsamic vinegar, hints of ripe pear. there's lots of fruit here and lots of tamari. dried cranberries.

Later: every nosing is different! The wine came out even more over the course of the evening. Flashes of memory and recognition - Hello, old friend! There are even shades of chocolate and bitter almond here, underneath the classic Musar nose. In fact, the almond/marzipan note was quite startling.
