Flight 1 - Xiaopu (Ian Dai) Tasting (4 Notes)

  • 2022 Domaine de la Gyalthang High altitude Chardonnay flor Yunnan 91 Points

    China, Yunnan

Natural wine, unfined. Medium gold. Orange peel, ginger, nuts and mushroom (?). The tannins take this wine to that higher level. Very even across the palate and enhance the experience.

  • 2022 Xiaopu Roussanne 92 Points

    China, Hebei

Natural orange wine. Unfined. Only four barrels made. Not often that I stumped for words on a wine but this did it. Loved it. Impossibly interesting flavours in a combo I've not experienced before. In the mix there was chrystanthemum, grapefruit, tangerine, nuts, and just that imponderable something else

  • 2021 Xiaopu Muscat Hamburg A Lovely Night 92 Points

    China, Ningxia

Served slightly chilled. Unfined. Slight cloud. Ruby colour. Very floral backed up by plenty of cherry. Good finish for this medium bodied wine. Very refreshing. Went on to buy a bottle the next day. Nice to drink by itself on a warm sunny day.

  • 2022 Domaine de la Gyalthang Cabernet Sauvignon 93 Points

    China, Hebei

Different. Envigorating. Served slightly chilled. Fresh cab sav with good concentrated blackberry and dark cherry flavours backed up by smoke and dark chocolate. Still giving this 93 even though the finish was only medium (the wine's only drawback).

    Grapes grown at 2,000m elevation.
