  • 2017 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Hors Serie

    France, Champagne

Served blind. Disgorged May 2022, 3 gms of dosage. 100% Chardonnay. Expresses a darker color with some light ox on the nose along with saline. Palate comes through as lemon curd-like and salinity. I wrote down limestone, as if the soil the wine was grown in comes through the palate. With more air, the notes of apple come through, too. I also sensed some wood here, although I wrote down older wood plus caramel--are these two compatible in a wine? I dunno, just trying to write what I sense.

  • NV Gosset Champagne Brut Grand Blanc de Blancs

    France, Champagne

Served blind. Disgorged 2015, with 4-6 grams of dosage. I was also told that we thiunk this is 2010 base. Bright and lively within a vein of green apple and citrus pith. Lots of intense lemon with a spicy, salty finish.

  • 2018 A. Lamblot Champagne Frénésie

    France, Champagne

Served blind. August 2021 disgorgement, with no dosage of 100% Pinot Meunier. Grapefruit expressed with lots of acid and citrus oil. There is a lot of density here and chalky note. Later I sensed what I thought was some brown spice, like a cinnamon. However, the wine just seems very closed up yet powerful. I just dunno if this would have tasted different today (so just letting it air) but it was very much outclassed by the Mousse Les Vignes de Mon Village from the same vintage, and of the same varietal (100% Pinot Meunier).

  • NV Famille Moussé Champagne Les Vignes De Mon Village (perpetual 2014 - 2018)

    France, Champagne

Served blind. December 20212 disgorgement, 100% Pinot Meunier without dosage. I have had a 1/2 dozen bottles of this wine, in different settings and even blind (as it was last night again). Every time I consistently like this wine and enjoy drinking it. Initially, blood orange and grapefruit, plus some red fruits this time lurking here (dried cherry?) and fruit cake. The interplay of the texture and complexity really works well. Towards the end of the meal, I retested the wine again, and it reflects the cool density, citrus spice, kiwi and the same terrific texture. Yeah, there is some influence of the sans dose here, yet the wine really works well for me as the wine (for me) doesn't need the dosage to shine.

  • 2015 Pierre Paillard Champagne Grand Cru Rosé Extra Brut Les Terres Roses

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Served blind. Disgorged February 2019, with about 1/3rd Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay. The acid here is terrific, giving it a bright lift, a zesty jacket of pink grapefruit. Tangy strawberry, too. At one point, I paused, made a comment to the group and told them to not laugh.....I sensed white chocolate. I don't find it in wine a lot but it seemed here last night. The wine overall sits wonderfully on my palate and was my WOTN.

  • NV Lanson Champagne Le Rosé Brut

    France, Champagne

Served blind. There is about 30% of reserve wines here, with the base being 2015. 8 grams of dosage, disgorged June 2021. Fleshy, with strawberry, apple, light slate. I found the wine light on complexity and more simple, especially as it sat alongside the 2015 Paillard Les Terres Rose that it was paired with. For me, the Lanson is just easy to drink but kinda simple.
