Burgundy Grand Crus With the Winos

Introduction
This month the group decided to taste Grand Cru Burgundy. Tasted over dinner at Troquet in Boston. These notes have my scores plus the group first and second place votes. This month not everyone could come some only 6 voters for 1 starter white (not voted upon, as only white) and 7 reds. An 8th red was unfortunately dead.
2011 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Bought on release, stored in professional conditions, no ullage. Airy, elegant, starts light but complete, mouthwatering, very Chablis with hazelnut notes. Subtle, superb, totally complete. Demure when opened (91-92) and just got better and better and better, salive inducing and spectacular. [Note Fevre thought this was best vineyard site in 2011]. Discrete, plush, gorgeous, aristocratic, subtle.

1969 Domaine Duroché Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

Unfortunately, a dead wine. Cork fell into bottle when first approached and while "sound" (e.g. drinkable in a famine) otherwise dead.

1983 Pierre Bourée Fils Chambertin 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Sweet fruit nose, very attractive, deep. Volnay-ish, I thought likely Gevrey grand cru. Medium color and depth, translucent, excellent length. "Beautiful nose" comments others also noted dusky, earthy elements. On downside and best in the first 20-30 minutes, became attenduated. 92-93. Drink up.

1988 Pierre Bourée Fils Mazis-Chambertin 90 Points

Part of monthly wine tasting group Grand Cru Burgundy tasting. Initial aromatics ? Brett, but not flawed. Musky, not corked, older, no balsamic notes. Good fruit beneath but this is not a wine for neophytes. Fleshy, ripe elements but starting to crack up and fall apart. TS noted over-ripe elements with tertiary notes in nose. Plate had more fruit. I was guessing 1983 or 1988.

1988 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Sweet older fruit in nose, clearly an older wine but more attactive by far than the 83 Bouree Chambertin or 88 Bouree Mazis-Chambertin preceding it. Ripe acidity, the flavor profile (had I been blind to the fact all were grand crus) would have made me think Morey St.-Denis or even a Bonnes Mares. Quite good showing, would drink if I owned it but not in decline. My third place wine of the flight but only first and second place votes officially recorded.

1999 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 92 Points

Owner brought wine a bit cold, stated out a bit dull because of that.
Very pretty nose, some tannins evident, a little overt liquerishness. As it warmed, fantastic nose. I initially thought this was a Morey-St.-Denis grand cru, not Clos de Tart but maybe a Bonnes Mares. Biggest fruit of the tasting. No rush to drink but drinking at very high level now. Have had this wine many times, this showing was congruent with prior tastings. My second place vote. Wonderful wine and drink now with pleasure or can hold (wish I had bought magnums).

1999 Louis Latour Corton-Grancey 92 Points

Really attractive, deep, dark nose, smells young with potential, but not quite the complexity on the nose as some of the other wines in the flight. A huge, tarry, "fruit bomb" for GC Burgundy (ok, the words "fruit bomb" in GC Burg context is different than that of Cotes du Rhone or Calif Cabs, this is refined and aristocratic fruit bomb). TS noted liquorice notes (which would have directed me to Clos de la Roche, for example) and others thought a Gevery Grand Cru. ... great showing and would buy in the secondary market in an instant.

2002 Domaine Joseph Roty Griotte-Chambertin 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Red wine of the night for me. Ineffable, "wow wine" nose, Dense, saturates the palate. TS: Red fruits, focused, refined, very pretty. Others: More Cote Rotie than Burgundy. Super complex. Has everything you want in GC Burgundy. The density of fruit suggested a special winemaker or domaine. I had completely forgotten, but in 2016 also bourght this wine to a tasting and gave it my first place vote. This wine is a total unicorn, small production, ridiculously hard to find, and (in my experience) superb. As I write note wondering why it is not a 96 point wine ...
