Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2006 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Nose is a bit tighter and more focused vs. expansive on opening. The palate shows classic Krug richness and toastines. While there is plenty of concentration and bright, lively acidity, this bottle is lacking pop and isn't quite seamless. Holding back just a bit right now, with upside from here.

  • 1999 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Wow, so fresh and lively and still very concentrated. It shows awesome evolution with hardened mineral character and just a touch of honey. It was even better and fresher with an hour of air.

  • 1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru

From 375ml. Shows loads of weight and concentration. It has developed lovely age appropriate evolution with notes of honey and popcorn. Very good and very Montrachet, but past peak in this format.

  • 2014 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru Séchet 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

This bottle is a bit more under stated relative to the 14 1er Foret side by side. It's bright fresh and easy drinking, making it quite approachable now.

  • 2014 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

This bottle shows great balance. It offers plush fruit that is so mineral and citrus inflected. Bright, energetic acidity. A classic and at peak Chablis.

  • 2010 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

A perfectly integrated and precise Chablis that is still youthful and fruit forward, though showing plenty of mineral and neutral wood. Chiseled and long finish. Early peak drinking.

  • 2015 Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Truffière 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Yum, so unctuous and rich with racy acidity and freshness. It feels fat, yet precise and has good cut in the finish showing nice balance. Early peak drinking with upside from here.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1999 Dominique Laurent Richebourg 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Blind. Wow, this has a crazy good nose with so much spice and whole cluster accenting black cherry, black tea and five spice. Oh wow so expansive and delicious on the palate. It shows medium concentration but is utterly delicious with great lingering spice on the finish. I thought it a DRC Ech.

Some GPT research sourcing Meadows and Rare Wine indicates this is likely sourced from Gros with instruction from Dominique on picking and whole cluster crush.

  • 1999 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

This bottle shows a super spice filled nose with pure, candied red cherry aromas. The palate is pure and shows excellent concentration with excellent spice. Impressively this had more weight and concentration than the blind Richebourg, but was a more contemplative wine with the subtle complexities that still need time to fully develop. Upside from here.

  • 1999 Forey Père et Fils Echezeaux

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Initially the aromas are rustic and earthy as the fruit is totally backward at the moment. The fruit on the palate is more rich and clean than the nose, though quite blocky and very structured. A relatively brooding wine in need of time.

Flight 4 (4 Notes)

  • 1999 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Flashes an explosive nose of polished black cherry and loads of sweet spice. The palate is clearly Grand Cru with density and concentration of primary, ripe, sweet fruit. In the more polished house style and one-noted at the moment, but this should develop another layer or two with time. Upside from here.

  • 1999 Bernard Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Still young and primary with loads of meaty black fruit and just showing the beginnings of meat and earth layers. It is so concentrated and while already seamless and nicely integrated, this will need time to develop nuance and layers. Upside from here.

  • 1999 Domaine Ponsot Chambertin

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Oddly metallic nose. The palate isn't metallic but the fruit is candied and overall it's clunky. Not flawed, just not good.

  • 1999 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

A beautiful nose with some funk/animale (perhaps its a little VA) and also showing meat nuance and intense spice layers. The palate is delicious and ready to go - fruit and structure are seamlessly in harmony.
