Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Bucket list bottle for sure. Hadn’t had either Vogüé or Musigny before. It’s a beautiful bottle of wine. Very elegant, some fruit but still reserved. Meaty savory almost tomato and earthy thing going on. I get that it’s iron fist/velvet glove, but when price is factored in that’s a tough sell. Likely just my palate, but Latour and some first growths are more ethereal for my taste preferences. Not a qualitative statement. Still so fun to try, loved it. Seemed to be drinking at peak but would have held up for a while too. What a treat

  • 1998 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Quick notes, fully at peak, delicious but lacking some of the intensity of better years (like 97). Liked some of the other (albeit more expensive so not a fair comparison) 98 Napa Cabs I’ve had.

  • 2022 Sine Qua Non Distenta White IV 96 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast

Lemon, stone fruit, pineapple. Lovely, comes across more Rhone focused. Bright, delicate, nose > palate. Good, but again these SQN whites for me don't quite hit the QPR required for me, little pricey. But love to drink them when someone else brings to share

  • 2008 Bollinger Champagne R.D. Extra Brut 100 Points

    France, Champagne

Run don’t walk to grab this. Floored. Good vintage clearly helped. All the normal Bolli toasty/yeasty/bready goodness but “this one goes up to 11”

Nice over the plate but nothing special

  • 2010 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano 97 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Wow, need some of this in my life. Did a great job balancing tannins and acid, was fantastic with Italian food but would have been enjoyable as a standalone wine too. Yowza.

  • 1967 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Not my style, personally. Enjoyable and interesting to drink but for me, was over the hill. Barolo can be tough to nail down. Young Barolo tastes like dirt. Mid range they’re beautiful. And old Barolo goes back to tasting like dirt (where we found this one). Obviously good producer etc., like their wines. This one I think we either just caught a mediocre bottle by chance?

  • 2010 Greer Cabernet Sauvignon Greer Vineyard 98 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

Surprise of the evening. More earthy and Bordeaux-esque than expected but still distinctly California with plenty of dark ripe blackberry and blueberry. A new favorite need to seek out some for the cellar.

  • 2013 Sine Qua Non Syrah ♂ 97 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast

Fantastic. Classic SQN. Dark dark blue and black fruit. Iron fist velvet glove. Took a solid 30-45 mins to open up but then it was at peak. Have liked other vintages slightly more for the additional depth and complexity but it was still good.

  • 2010 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 93 Points

    Germany, Nahe

No notes, but quite enjoyable. Closer to a good Sauternes. Good citrus, fresh fruits
