The purpose of these events is to enjoy a well-chosen bottle without any competition from other similar wines. To focus on the one bottle and enjoy it for what it is and not directly compare it to other wines.

  • 2012 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 95 Points

    France, Champagne

    Per the host, purchased in a wineshop in Paris. Served cold, this was lively and expressive. As it warmed up, the richness and toast came out. I found this slightly bolder than Taittinger Comte generally is, and maybe a touch more impressive. I'm glad to have 6.

  • 2022 MOWE Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Coombsville

    Pop and pour, served at refrigerator temperature. There's a sulfrous funk that I feel will integrate with time. Its fairly easy drinking with a lot of citrus, good acidity and some tropical fruit. Two of the 3 of us preferred this colder, it got richer at a warmer temperature but lost its crispness. We agreed it would be better on the deck in summer and with some more cellar time, which is what I will look forward to.

    See MNWINEJUNKIE for bottle treatment, drank about 1/3rd the bottle over 2 hours. This started out beautiful and there were peaks and valleys during the time it was in front of me. Stylistically its typical of the traditional old school Napa cab, which was a small surprise for me since Harlan wines tend to be a little flashier. Not a huge surprise though, because this is the Vine Hill Ranch vineyard. Lots of leather, slight funk, red fruit, some blackberry, meaty. Once in a while there was some alcohol peaking through, as well as slight raisined flavors. But the raisin at least added interest at this point. We had a discussion and disagreed on the wines cellarability, I would drink it now because I don't see it getting any better, but no big rush.

  • 2009 Château d'Yquem 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Very cool that this is the 6th time I've been able to try this wine. It remains a phenomenal and balanced Sauternes. I think I preferred it in its youth when it was fresher, but that is splitting hairs and a personal preference. I hope I can try this when it reaches maturity.
