Pronounced nose. Dough, bruised apple, pear, yoghurt. The high acidity expresses itself through some tartness which the later wines in the bracket, the RD, and Côte aux Enfants did not have.
Pronounced nose and a long finish. Has a lot of body for a Champagne, maybe on account of being on lees for 14 years. Much more powerful than the 2015 La Grand Annee that preceded it in the tasting. On top of the usual autolytic flavours, I found this quite saline. For many at the tasting this was the WOTN beating the much more expensive 2013 La Côte aux Enfants GC Champagne.
Made from a single plot in Ay, fermented in neutral oak, aged on lees 8-9 years. Most linear of the Bollingers in the tasting. Has impeccable balance and a clean linear taste. Jasmine flowers, gentle biscuit, bramley apple. Delicious. Opinions were split across the others present as this Bollinger masterclass whether this or the 2008 R.D was the best in this tasting bracket.
