  • NV Sacy Soeur & Frère Champagne Grand Cru Les Chardonnays de Verzy 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

From magnum. No detailed notes. Elegant champagne, typical BdB, slight brioche note. Young

2021, from the Saint Bets and Croix de l’Aumonier lieu-dits in Verzy

  • 2020 Sacy Soeur & Frère Champagne Grand Cru Les Courtisols de Fût[ur] 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

From magnum. No detailed notes. Tasted after the Chardonnay; as Peter says this was bigger, some red fruit, a bit more brioche. Lovely bottle

  • 2017 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Nahe

From magnum. No detailed notes. At 8 years still young; petrol, honeysuckle, apples, some tropical notes (pineapple?), minerality, herbs. High acidity, long finish

  • 2004 Domaine de l'Ecu Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Expression de Granite

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine

From magnum. No detailed notes. This was wat past its prime, but not gone. But not really enjoyable anymore. Nutty, lemon, yeasty

  • 2019 Nicolas Jacob Chardonnay Le Clos 91 Points

    France, Jura, Côtes du Jura

From magnum. No detailed notes. I agree with Peter; especially the acidity was missing a bit and therefore the wine lacked the tension which the Ganevat Florine ‘19 (also from magnum) did have

  • 2019 Jean-François Ganevat Chardonnay Cuvée Florine 93 Points

    France, Jura, Côtes du Jura

From magnum. No detailed notes. Second time in ‘25 I had this wine and I liked it even better than the first time. Tasted next to the Nicolas Jacob Le Clos ‘19 and this was clearly the better wine. Tension was the keyword here, created by the great acidity and baked apple, lemon peel, honey notes that it has. Obviously still young, but off to a great start

  • 1996 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 93 Points

France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant

Third time I had this 1996 Coulee (still one left in the cellar). Maybe it was the setting or the time I got to spend with this glass, but it didn’t show the breath of complexity the two previous bottles showed. It was still a real pleasure with the bruised apples, honey notes, somme sherry tones coming through. And of coursed aged, but not tired and that at almost 30 years for a white…

  • 2021 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Pays d'Hérault 91 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pays d'Hérault

From magnum. No detailed notes. This is obviously well made but it’s just not the wine that does it for me. Despite the relative freshness and ok acidity, it’s still too ripe with too much jammy notes coming through.

  • 2016 Cascina Luisin Barbaresco Asili 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

From magnum. No detailed notes. I liked this very much; medium+ intensity on the nose with violets, rose petals, spices, hint of tar, sour cherry. Tannins can still use some time to further integrate, good acidity, long finish. Lovely bottle

  • 2022 Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits

From magnum. No detailed notes. This was a fine regional Bourgogne rouge, easy drinking, little complexity. Not sure if age will add complexity. It shows nice red fruit, good acidity and a decent finish

  • 2022 LaLù Langhe Nebbiolo 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

From magnum. No detailed notes. Very comparable to the 2020 I had, this was a bit younger. Red fruit, licorice, not to much the green note I had in the 2020

  • 2015 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 94 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

No detailed notes. Two hour slow ox. This showed already beautifully, so seductive! It does need a bit of time to reach it’s peak as the tannins are not really integrated yet, but the nose and palate are already gorgeous. It shows wild strawberry, cherry, licorice, some blue and black fruit. Medium+ acidity, high tannins, very long and lingering finish. 94++

  • NV Gaspard Brochet Champagne Brut Nature Assemblage PN + CH Tome IV 94 Points

    France, Champagne

No detailed notes. This was showing very, very well. Such a great nose, seductive and complex. Would love to spend a bit more time with this glass

  • 2020 VikeVike Barbagia Ghirada Fittiloghe 91 Points

    Italy, Sardinia, Barbagia

From magnum. No detailed notes. I would have never guessed this was Garnacha, although it had enough red fruit, it also had some blue and red fruit, combined with a quite a bit of oak (at the moment). Very nice to have tasted this as my experience with wines from Sardinia is limited

  • 2015 Cobo Winery Grand Reserve Kashmer 90 Points

    Albania, Berat

Tasted blind. No detailed notes. Despite the serious incentive (“I’ll pay for any dinner at whatever restaurant in the world if you get this right”) I obviously landed nowhere. I got to the 8-10 year age range, but could not pinpoint a region or grape variety. My experience with Albanian wine in general and with the indigenous Shesh i Zi grape are limited… Quite ripe, raisins, fig with a fair amount of oak

  • 1998 A. et P. de Villaine Rully Les Saint-Jacques Blanc

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

Tasted blind. No detailed notes. I did not know where to put this: obviously aged with all the tertiary notes (dried apple, dried mango), but with serious acidity. Past its peak for sure, but still alive. Interesting to see that these wines can last longer than I would think

  • NV Dehours Champagne Réserve Perpétuelle Extra Brut Maisoncelle 92 Points

  • 2022 Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette 89 Points

Canada, British Columbia, Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley VQA

No detailed notes. I couldn’t get to Syrah, but interesting to try this as my Canadian wine experience is limited (read: almost non existent)

  • NV Bérêche et Fils Champagne Reflet d'Antan Brut 95 Points

    France, Champagne

What a great champagne, this would have fitted right in in yesterday’s tasting with Selosse and all his disciples. Oxidative, but fresh, loads of minerality, richness.

Base year 2013. Degorgement December 2017

  • 2012 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 92 Points

    Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

No detailed notes. Agree with Peter’s note; quite savoury, also cheese, nutty. Interesting and complex. Great bottle

  • 2022 Domaine de l'Anglore Terre d'Ombre 91 Points

    France, Vin de France

First time drinking this, was on my list for a while. Very drinkable with enough complexity to make it interesting. Blue and black fruit with various spices and herbs

  • 2019 Emilien Feneuil Champagne Les Ruisseaux

    France, Champagne

No note made. I liked it quite a bit, but probably more in the 91-92 range than the 94-95 range as I see in some tasting notes. But then again, it was late in the evening…
